#POTW Senior Spotlight: Quinn Meola, Warren John F. Kennedy

Each week, #SpanningtheNeed will present an “Inspirational Person of the Week’ and have a “Q & A” with one of its many gifted individuals and/or groups who are willing to go out of their own way to help others.

As the spring season blooms with vibrant colors and the promise of new beginnings, it’s a time of celebration for many communities. Among the myriad of joyous occasions, one particularly special event stands out – the graduation of high school seniors. This year, as we bid farewell, our local area high schools are taking a step further and Spanning the Need is honoring and spotlighting the achievements of these bright young minds. This week’s featured is Quinn Meola from Warren John K. Kennedy.

Bio:
Quinn is a high school senior attending Warren John F. Kennedy High school. He has been apart of the JFK basketball team for all 4 years, and as a senior he was captain of the team. Quinn played baseball for three years, as well he is the co-founder of a Student Betterment Committee which focuses on making the school and student life better in any way. Lastly, he is the National Honors Society President at JFK school.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to attend the University of Pittsburgh and study pre-med to further then become a radiologist

What is your favorite class?
My favorite class is probably Theology

What accomplishments during your high school journey are you most proud of, and how do you feel they have shaped you as an individual?
As co-founder of the SBC we have got over 50 thousand dollars to redo our whole courtyard, and just getting this accomplished helped me realize that you can truly do anything you want as long as you want it bad enough.

Beyond academics, what extracurricular activities, volunteering in the community or passions have played a crucial role in your high school life, and how have they influenced your future goals?
I will say National Honor Society and helping out in the community, as well as playing basketball and being apart of the team helped me grow as a person. They both helped me realize my goals and what I want to do in my life.

Why is the most memorable moment in your scholastic career?
Winning the Theology award my sophomore year of scholastic career

As you reflect on your time in high school, is there a teacher or mentor who made a lasting impression on you? What made their impact so meaningful?
My art teacher Mrs. Kraker, she taught me to solve problems in a creative way and to really think outside the box.

What is your favorite sports related movie?
Coach Carter

What is your favorite food?
Chicken Parmesan

What song best describes you or is the soundtrack to your life?
That’s Life by Frank Sinatra

Do you have a field of study already chosen when you go to college? Why that field?
Pre-med as I am fascinated by the human body and I want to further my education about the human body as well as I want to become a radiologist and be able to see the problems with people and treat them accordingly

Who is your role model?
Jesus

If there was one person you would want to meet, past or present, who would it be and why?
Jesus as I have many questions about so much and I want to praise him for giving us salvation
