In 1948, World Health Day was established by the first World Health Assembly. Since 1950, World Health Day has been celebrated on April 7 to coincide with the establishment of the World Health Organization. Health must be a right for everyone and, especially on this day, we want to promote the right to health, especially for the most vulnerable people. Every year World Health Day is celebrated with a theme and this year’s theme is “Health For All”.

The 75th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on public health successes that have improved the quality of life over the past seven decades. This day is also an opportunity to motivate action to address today’s and tomorrow’s healthcare challenges.

Health must be a right for everyone

Health is a right that must be protected, but many people still cannot access health care. To date, therefore, health is not a right for everyone. In many countries the population can’t access medical services because they are paid or non-existent as in the third world. World Health Day aims to remember that on the contrary, health is a right for everyone, in a world where too many people still do not have free access to medical care. Also, this is a day to raise awareness, provide education and share medical research. It is also a day to reflect on how to take care of ourselves.

What to do on health day

The best way to observe this special day is to schedule a medical checkup for ourselves and our family members. We can also encourage others to take better care of themselves. On a practical level, it means making healthy choices such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking and alcohol abuse, and having regular medical check-ups.

World health must be a right for everyone, April 7 is the right occasion to remember it also on social networks using the hashtag #WorldHealthDay and take a step forward so that health finally truly becomes a right for everyone.
