Ohio Nonviolence Week Parade and Rally

The 13th Annual Nonviolence Parade and Rally will be held on Sunday, October 1 at 3:00pm. The parade kicks off Ohio Nonviolence Week, which is October 1-7, 2023. The parade will be a parade of walkers, cars, trucks, and floats. The parade will begin at the intersection of Wick Ave. and Wood Street, proceeding through downtown to The Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre where the rally will be held immediately following the parade. Come and participate in the parade and take a stand for nonviolence! You can register for the parade at www.ohiononviolenceweek.org.

Sunday, October 1-Wednesday, October 4: Five Day Nonviolence Reading Challenge. Sign up for the reading challenge at www.ohiononviolenceweek.org. On Friday, October 6 at 12:00pm there will be a panel discussion based on the readings at the YWCA.
Monday, October 2, 2023 – 5:00pm-9:00pm at Flambeau’s Live, 2308 Market St.: Mingle with Minni – come, have dinner, and meet Minnijean Brown Trickey, one of the Little Rock Nine. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at www.ohiononviolenceweek.org. Eat in or take out.
Tuesday, October 3, 2023 – Simeon Booker Award for Courage. Speakers will be Lisa McNair and Sarah Collins Rudolph, both lost sisters in the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama sixty years ago. Lisa was born one year after her sister, Denise, was killed. Sarah was the fifth girl in the restroom and suffered damage to her eyes. Sarah is the national recipient of the Simeon Booker Award for Courage. Sister Ann Manamon, director of the Dorothy Day House in Youngstown for many years, is the local recipient.

7:00pm – Simeon Booker Award for Courage at the Tyler History Center. This event is free and open to the public.
Wednesday, October 4, 2023 – 6:00pm: Spoken Word, “Speak Your Peace”, at the Hopewell Theatre, 702 Mahoning Ave. Free and open to the public.
Thursday, October 5, 2023 – 5:00pm–7:00pm. Reception for art and poetry contest winners at the Youngstown Public Library, 305 Wick Ave. Free and open to the public.
Friday, October 6, 2023 – 12:00pm. Panel discussion based on the Five Day Read at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave. Light lunch will be provided. Free and open to the public. Register at www.ohiononviolenceweek.org or at the YWCA.
Friday, October 13, 2023 – 11:00am–1:00pm. “Chalk Over Hate” at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane. A special art session titled “The Art of Emotion” for ages 6-13. Lunch will be provided. The program is free. For reservations contact Nic Bush at nbush@jewishyoungstown.org
