Connecting Youngstown to the World

May 16 @ 12:00 pm EDT

Mahoning Valley Historical Society will feature local historian, Jacob Harver, at Tyler History Center on Thursday, May 16 for this month’s Bites and Bits of History at noon.

With the completion of the Erie Canal in 1825, the Ohio & Erie Canal in 1832, and the P&O Canal in 1840, Youngstown became connected to a national network and economy that put it on the map and set the stage for its industry. Today a new national network of hike and bike trails is emerging, of which the Mahoning Valley is currently a significant gap. This talk will explore transportation, history, and culture and how place through connectivity helps shape communities.

Bring your lunch to the Tyler History Center’s Thomas Ballroom for this free educational event. Bites and Bits of History Lunchtime programs are sponsored by the John and Loretta Hynes Foundation.
