Eastwood Mall is teaming up with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to battle Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a disease that takes the lives of thousands of Americans every year.  On Sunday, June 9, the Walk & Rally to Defeat ALS will take place at the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles. The event kicks off at noon at the Eastwood Event Centre.  Walking teams which have been raising donations for the event will then take a one-mile walk inside the mall concourses.  After they finish, they are encouraged to continue on to Eastwood Field where the Scrappers will take on the Frederick Keys at 2:05 PM (Gates open at 1 PM).  Prior to the game, the participants will be honored for their contributions to the ALS Association.  In addition to the team donations, the Cafaro Foundation has donated $5,000 to the organization.

The Walk & Rally to Defeat ALS takes on special meaning for employees of the Cafaro Company, which owns and operates Eastwood Mall.  A former co-worker, Leslie Sok, was diagnosed with ALS in 2022 and has been battling the disease ever since.  Leslie worked for the company for 30 years and has now retired due to her diagnosis.  Cafaro employees have formed teams, known as Leslie’s ALStars, to raise money for the ALS Association.  The ALS Association uses funds raised from events such as this to provide support for families living with the disease, through equipment loans, support groups, patient advocates, and much more.

The Eastwood Mall Complex is located at 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, in Niles, Ohio.  It is one of America’s largest shopping centers and attracts more than 13 million visitors annually with more than 200 department stores, specialty shops, restaurants, hotels and entertainment options.  The Eastwood Mall Complex is owned and managed in association with Cafaro-affiliated companies, based in Niles, Ohio.
