In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Marissa Miller, a true beacon of hope, is set to participate in the 14th annual Panerathon to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Having traversed her own arduous journey through breast cancer, Miller’s unwavering spirit and commitment to the cause serve as an inspiration to many. The Panerathon, a community-driven event known for its spirited atmosphere, brings together individuals from all walks of life to support those affected by breast cancer.

Marissa Miller’s story is one of triumph over adversity. Diagnosed with breast cancer, her involvement not only underscores the importance of breast cancer awareness but also emphasizes the potential for hope and even in the face of the toughest battles. Miller’s journey serves as a reminder that each step taken and each dollar raised contribute to the collective effort to eradicate breast cancer. As she gears up for the Panerathon, Marissa Miller stands as a living testament to strength, resilience, and the unwavering human spirit, inspiring all to come together in support of a vital cause.

Marissa provided us her story to share!

My name is Marissa Miller and I am a local resident of the 330 area and I teach at Brookfield Middle school. I wanted to get involved to help out with the Panerathon as my first fundraising event towards breast cancer. All funds go to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, where I am a patient and my breast surgeon is located. My doctor at the center, Dr. Donald Keenan made me feel well cared for and I can tell he’s an amazing person the way he speaks and cares for his patients. You can tell he cares and is passionate about his work. Dr. Keenan has a heart of gold and I’m so glad he’s on my team of all stars! I feel like when you get hit in the face with a terrible prognosis such as cancer it’s almost like drafting all stars for the NFL, only I’m drafting the best of the best for my team which I refer to as Marissa’s Militia.

I have so many great doctors, nurses, friends, and family. Cancer sucks, let’s be honest, but it has been a blessing in some cases- I’ve met some truly amazing people. People who I consider guardian angels that walk among us and I never would have crossed paths with them until now.

My goal for the Panerathon was to raise $1,000 for the Joanie Abdu Center. However, my team Marissa’s Militia has raised $1685. Team members will be walking the Panerathon with me and I am so excited to see everyone. The Panerathon means everyone coming together to help out a great organization that is helping women and everyone at the Joanie Abdu Center has been amazing.

This event and the cancer diagnosis has brought not only friends and family together but an entire community. My eyes are open to all the love and support that’s around me as I am forever grateful for everything.
