Each week, #SpanningtheNeed will present an “Inspirational Person of the Week’ and have a “Q & A” with one of its many gifted individuals and/or groups who are willing to go out of their own way to help others. Among the myriad of joyous occasions, one particularly special event stands out – the graduation of high school seniors. This year, as we bid farewell, our local area high schools are taking a step further and Spanning the Need is honoring and spotlighting the achievements of these bright young minds. This week’s featured senior is Vincent Butto from Boardman Schools.

Name:  Vincent Butto
School:
Boardman High School
Class:
2026
GPA:
3.8

Bio:
Vincent is a student at Boardman High School and is expected to graduate in 2026. He has been actively involved in football, basketball, and baseball for the past three years. In addition to athletics, Vincent participates in the National Honor Society, Big Spartan Little Spartans, and Link Crew. Outside of school, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, being outdoors—whether fishing or golfing—and listening to music while watching the sunrise or sunset.

What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation is to go into pre-med at the Youngstown State University.

What is your favorite class?
My favorite class that I’ve taken is American history.

What accomplishments during your high school journey are you most proud of, and how do you feel they have shaped you as an individual?
My most cherished accomplishment throughout my four years in high school is being accepted into the Nation honors society. I believe it has shaped me as the person I am today because it is very comforting knowing that the hard-work I’ve put into my academics paid and continues to pay off.

Beyond academics, what extracurricular activities, volunteering in the community or passions have played a crucial role in your high school life, and how have they influenced your future goals?
The extracurricular activities that I am involved in are football, basketball, and baseball. I am in Nation Honors Society, Big Spartan Little Spartan, and link crew all through Boardman. These things have all influenced me because they all teach valuable lessons such as leadership, teamwork, and the ability to juggle school work and outside activities.

What is the most memorable moment in your scholastic career?
One of my most favorite memories throughout school was spending time with my history teacher sophomore year and having fun in his class.

As you reflect on your time in high school, is there a teacher or mentor who made a lasting impression on you? What made their impact so meaningful?
If I had to choose a mentor who has made an impact on my life, it would be coach Dota. Not only is he focused on the football team and winning games, he also has a good relationship with the players and always wants to be there for us not only as football players, but as young men getting ready for the world ahead of us.

What is your favorite sports related movie?
My favorite sports related movie is Remember the Titans.

A field of study that I want to pursue at college would be pre-med because I want to help people in need and be able to make a difference wherever I live.

Who is your role model?
My role model is my dad because he is an extremely hard-worker and provides for our family at all costs. He is always there for my family and always knows how to light up the room wherever he goes.

If there was one person you would want to meet, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would what to meet Nick Chubb because he is my favorite athlete and he seems like he is a good person at heart

A favorite quote by which you live.
