Patricia Summers
Patricia Summers founded Youngstown Blue Coats in 2017 with one goal: to ensure no one freezes to death due to homelessness. From helping 10 people in its first year to more than 5,000 in 2024, the nonprofit now works with 76 agencies across Ohio and Pennsylvania. The organization distributes coats, boots, sleeping bags, tents and more—especially to veterans. A former preschool teacher and bus driver, Patricia earned her degree in early childhood education from Youngstown State University.
Her work has earned her the 2024 Jenco Award, WYTV Hometown Hero recognition, and finalist status for the AARP Purpose Prize. At Youngstown Blue Coats, women hold many leadership roles, and Patricia is proud to see volunteers rise to lead. Her mission remains simple: meet needs with dignity and love.
