YSU Athletes Announces Hall of Fame Induction Honorees and Ceremony in January

The Youngstown State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will induct seven outstanding individuals into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame in January. The “class of 2022” features Gina Abruzzino (women’s golf), Ken Conatser (contributor), Jamaine Cook (football), Jacke Healey (baseball), Jordan Ingalls (softball), Aaron Swenson (baseball) and Haley Thomas (softball).

The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 in the Chestnut Room at the Kilcawley Center. Tickets are available by contacting Austin Snodgrass at arsnodgrass@ysu.edu

Abruzzino was a three-time first-team All-Horizon League selection…during her career, she helped YSU to a Horizon League Championship (2003), a second-place finish and a third-place finish…was a three-time academic All-Horizon League selection.

Conatser had two stints as an assistant coach for the football program. He coached from 1986 through 2000 and returned to the sideline in 2003. During his time at YSU, he served as special teams coordinator, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator while spending time coaching various positions under Head Coach Jim Tressel. He was part of all six NCAA finalist teams and four championship winners from 1991 through 1999.

Cook was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Football conference selection, highlighted by a first-team nod in 2011…finished with 4,052 yards on 811 carries in his YSU career…still ranks in the top five in both categories…had 20 100-yard rushing performances…scored 39 touchdowns…at the conclusion of his career, ranked as the school-record holder in career all-purpose yards with 5,220…he now ranks second all-time in that category.

Healey had an impressive two-year performance with the Penguins from 2009-2010…had a .328 batting average with 138 hits in 421 at bats…belted 20 home runs and laced 30 doubles…finished with 100 runs scored and 95 RBI…was drafted in the 27th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros with the 813th overall pick.

Ingalls was a two-time first-team All-Horizon League selection…started in every game in her four seasons with the program (197 contests)…in her career, posted 228 hits in 625 at bats to finish with a .365 batting average…had 37 doubles, 116 RBI and scored 102 runs and a .514 slugging percentage.

Swenson posted a 20-12 overall record…appeared in 66 games, making 46 starts…threw 347 innings and struck out 265 batters, both of which were school records…pitched at least 90 innings in his final three years…was YSU’s most recent Horizon League Pitcher of the Year until the program won the honor in each of the past two seasons…signed with the Baltimore Orioles following his YSU career.

Thomas is one of just three players in school history to be named the Horizon League Player of the Year…in her career, had 233 hits in 644 at bats for a .362 batting average…had 45 doubles, nine triples, 25 home runs, 26 stolen bases, 148 runs scored and a .576 slugging percentage… finished her career as the only player in school history to record at least 200 hits, 25 home runs, 45 doubles, 25 stolen bases and a batting average above .360.
