Youngstown— ACTION and GROW Urban farm announce their third year of collaborating to bring fresh produce to the residents of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley through their Pop-Up Farmer’s Market Series.  Markets are scheduled at various locations, primarily in the city from June to September. The first market is Friday, June 4th from 11 am -2 pm on Federal Plaza in Downtown Youngstown. There will also be live music at several of the markets. A full schedule is online at www.actionoh.com or on our Facebook page at ACTION of Mahoning Valley.

This joint effort began in 2019 when the city acknowledged food access challenges, primarily from lack of access to grocery stores.  Youngstown has been declared a food desert.  Recognizing the correlation between fresh, unprocessed food and good health, ACTION and GROW Urban farm seek to address this issue through the markets. As often as possible, the produce that is sold is locally grown.  Multiple forms of payment are accepted including SNAP (and the “Double Up: program), WIC, Senior Produce Perks, cash and credit cards.

In addition to fresh produce, this year we have planned to have COVID-19 vaccinations at all locations with the cooperation the Youngstown City Health District.

ACTION ACTION is a grassroots community organization which seeks to unite faith groups, schools, neighborhood organizations, tenant councils, and other non-profits to work for social justice.

GROW Urban Farm is a social enterprise of Flying HIGH Inc. that exists to provide workforce development and job readiness training to individuals who have barriers to employment.

For more information, contact ACTION’s Executive Director Rose Carter at taulen@aol.com or 330 941 0475.
