Youngstown Press Club Annual Meeting

April 21 @ 5:30 pm EDT

A major city television news anchor with more than 2 million followers on social media will discuss the changing media landscape at the April 21 annual meeting and dinner of the Youngstown Press Club.

Caroline Collins, a West Middlesex, PA native and a former WFMJ-TV news personality, who is now an evening news anchor and content creator at KRIV-TV Fox 26 in Houston, will give the presentation. Her topic will be: “Local Voices, Global Reach: The Digital Transformation of News.” The gathering will begin at 5:30pm at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Collins will discuss her work as a weekend evening anchor and multimedia journalist at WFMJ between 2017 and 2020, her career path, how local news is adapting to different ways of news consumption and what to expect in the future. She holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and a master’s degree in communication technology with a concentration in social media from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, where she interned with KDKA-TV. She credits her master’s degree, which she earned while working at WFMJ, with helping her acquire more than 2 million followers across all of her social media sites. She has more than 1 million followers on TikTok alone. In one TikTok video, the dynamic and energetic Collins takes viewers inside her Fox 26 workspace and documents in real time her preparation to anchor a 10:00pm newscast. In addition to journalism, Collins is passionate about golf, serving as a co-host on the national golf show “The Swing Clinic.” She made two holes-in-one within two weeks as a sophomore on Point Park’s women’s golf team. Collins began her broadcasting career at WJET and WFXP in Erie, PA, where she was a general assignment reporter, fill-in anchor and producer. She joined Fox 26 in Houston, the sixth largest TV market in the country, in December 2022, after having been a morning anchor for KSEE in Fresno, CA.
