The Lighter Side of Sports Reporting

June 20 @ 8:00 am EDT

A well-known northeast Ohio sportswriter will address a June 20 Youngstown Press Club event. “The Lighter Side of Sports Reporting,” will be the topic of Joe Scalzo in an 8:00am breakfast gathering at the Collections Cafe in the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave.

Having attended Malone College, Scalzo has spent most of the past 25 years writing about sports, first at The Vindicator, then at The Canton Repository and now at Crain’s Cleveland Business. Before arriving at Crain’s, he spent about 18 months overseeing the websites of the trade publications: Tire Business and Rubber News.

The museum will open its sports art gallery early to accommodate attendees. A guided tour of the gallery will be offered by the museum staff immediately following the breakfast. Registration is required by June 14 at youngstownpressclub.com. The fee is $25 for Youngstown Press Club members and $35 for non-members.

Scalzo’s presentation is sponsored by the Edward M. Barr Foundation speaker series. A portion of proceeds from YPC events goes to the club’s college scholarship fund. The club was re-established in 2018 to promote journalism and related professions in the Mahoning Valley.
