Steal Away – Hopewell Theatre
March 2 @ 2:00 pm EST

Hopewell Theatre presents Steal Away by Ramona King, February 21, 22, 28, March 1 & 2. Five upstanding church ladies in Depression-era Chicago raise funds to send young Black women to college. But when they are denied a bank loan, the ladies, inspired by the famous criminal John Dillinger, take drastic measures and “steal away”! Will they pull it off? Or will they take over as Public Enemy Number One? Come for laughs and lots of fun!
“The audience should expect lots of humor, big laughs, a fun time, but they will also get a relevant message of the times of life, thought provoking moments and a look into the ways we responded to the challenges and disadvantages of society. This play, takes place in the depression years of the early 1930’s, reflects back on the years leading into the turn of the century and yet still the messages and themes absolutely remain relevant, even in the 3rd decade of this 2000 millennium,” says Carla Gibson, Director.
“Steal Away” features Ramona S. Austin, Lois E. Thornton, Joy L. Smith, Dezaryé Inez Powell, Monica Beasley-Martin, Carla D. Gipson, and ShIree Wilson, stage manager.
Performance Schedule: February 21, 22, 28, and March 1 at 7:30pm; March 2 at 2:00pm.
