How AI is Changing the Media Landscape

An expert on the role of artificial intelligence in journalism will address a March 21 Youngstown Press Club luncheon. “How AI is changing the media landscape” will be the topic of Nikita Roy, a data scientist, journalist and media entrepreneur. The event will begin at noon at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County’s main branch, 305 Wick Ave.
Newsroom applications of AI include transcription, language translation, analysis of large collections of data, fact-checking, summary writing, creation of infographics and comment moderation. Roy is host of the globally-acclaimed Newsroom Robots podcast – one of the top technology podcasts in more than 30 nations. She is a Knight Fellow at the International Center for Journalists and has been a part of its News Innovation Lab and the Google News Initiative Startup Lab. Her digital news startup, The NRI Nation, was incubated at Harvard Innovation Labs, is a two-time semifinalist at the Harvard President’s Innovation Challenge, and has received the Harvard Innovation Lab’s Spark Grant. Roy was spotlighted as a notable Canadian youth founder and was selected for Canada’s League of Innovators Accelerator in 2022. She is president of the Canadian Association of Journalists’ National Capital Region Chapter. An alumna of the University of Toronto and Harvard University, Roy aims to foster the responsible and innovative use of artificial intelligence in media and conducts workshops, develops AI products and advises on AI strategy.
