Tri-County American Heart Association drives local change in women’s heart health through prominent community volunteers

The American Heart Association, announced the 2023 Woman of Impact and Teen of Impact nominees for the Tri-County.

Each year a select group of individuals across the Tri-County are nominated by their peers to become an American Heart Association Woman of Impact and Teen of Impact because of their passion and drive to make a difference in the community and raise awareness of women’s cardiovascular health.

“Cardiovascular disease remains our No. 1 killer so it’s vital for all women to take charge of their heart health and encourage others to do the same,” said Kerry Reckard, 2022 Woman of Impact Award Winner. “While we’ve made some great strides over the years, we still have a long way to go. For example, American Heart Association surveys have found younger generations of women, Gen Z and Millennials, are less likely than prior generations to be aware that cardiovascular disease is their greatest health threat.[1]  Heart disease has no boundaries, pregnant women and women going through menopause are also at risk. We must raise our voices and make sure all Tri-County women know how to take steps now to protect our hearts later and help our community live longer.”

Woman of Impact and Teen of Impact is an extension of the American Heart Association’s long-standing Go Red for Women movement, a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.

Beginning on National Wear Red Day, February 3, 2023, hundreds of Woman of Impact and Teen of Impact nominees nationwide embark on a 9-week journey to help transform the health of women. Each week, nominees, and their Impact Teams, made up of friends, family members and co-workers, participate in activities designed to create a culture of wellness and health equity. Activities may include educational events, learning and spreading the word about CPR, getting active, recruiting women to participate in research, and more. Nominees and their Impact Teams also raise critical funds for the Tri-County American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement.

On April 6, 2023, the Woman of Impact nominee and Teen of Impact nominee whose team has the highest number of impact points—awarded through a combination of fundraising and mission impact activities —is named the Tri-County 2023 Woman of Impact Award Winner and Tri-County 2023 Teen of Impact Award Winner.

Tri-County’s 2023 Woman of Impact Nominees are:

Jamie Flynn – Orangetheory Youngstown
Amy Kren – Girard City Schools
Susan M. Moorer – Youngstown State University
Amy Reynallt – HBK CPAs & Consultants
Holly Ritchie – Keller Williams Chervenic Realty

Tri-County’s 2023 Teen of Impact Nominees are:
Cora Christoff
Ava Kuntz
Madeline Long
Abbigail Yavorsky

“These women and teens have seen the need and are rising to the challenge to combat heart disease and stroke in women in the Tri-County area,” said Courtney Lockshaw, Development Director with the American Heart Association. “By using their position in the community and their local networks, they are in a unique position to further the mission of the American Heart Association and the Go Red for Women movement through awareness, education, and fundraising. They are the embodiment of being a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives for all.”
