Allison knew she was going to make a difference in this world by writing a bunch of letters to people. To date, she is over 1,000 letters and cards sent.
One woman decided to listen to her grandmother’s final wishes and sent out letters to strangers in order to brighten their day. 25-year-old Allison Bond from Arkansas who has cerebral palsy started writing letters over a year ago during COVID-19 when she couldn’t attend school due to her medical condition. The purpose of the letter? Just to make another person happy. Allison started writing letters to strangers beginning with soldiers and inmates. And the first reply she received to her letter was from a soldier. Allison told 5NEWS, “I have one framed from a soldier. He had all his battle buddies sign it. So I framed it so I could put it up.” Every letter she’s received is still safe with her. She knew she was going to make a difference in this world by writing a bunch of letters to people.
Using paper, cards, envelopes, pens, and stamps she created an initiative called Kindness Through Letters Mission. The 25-year-old uses her Facebook page to ask people who would like to help to donate these items to help her continue writing these letters. Now she even has pen pals in Kansas, New Jersey, Utah, Tennessee, Iowa, and Virginia. She also has pen pals across the world including Russia and Japan.
The letters not just help make a stranger happy but also helps develop and improve some of her own life skills. “It’s helping her fine motor skills and in a lot of other ways,” her mother Cathy Bond said, according to Washington County Enterprise Leader. Cathy believes that her daughter’s letter help “spread joy” to many people in a world that is full of negative news. The young woman would eventually like to turn her mission into an official nonprofit. “I seriously think I’m old-fashioned because I like to write letters. I just enjoy doing it,” Allison added.
So far Allison has 600 letters written that she’s ready to send out to people. Initially, she hated to write but now she’s learned to love it and finds it a great way to connect with people. It’s the inspiration Allison’s grandmother gave to her before she passed away. “She told me to keep doing something good,” Allison fondly remembers.
