Armstrong announces their Fifth Annual Avenge Hunger Month campaign to fight hunger across their service territory. The 2022 Avenge Hunger Month collection window begins on August 29 and continues through October 2. The timing for Avenge Hunger Month is deliberate; September is National Hunger Action Month and the need for food is higher during the last quarter of the year.
Local Armstrong stores will collect non-perishable food and monetary donations for local feeding programs. The resources collected help to supply over 200 community feeding programs throughout the Armstrong footprint in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky. Armstrong has also donated thousands of branded commercials to promote this need in our communities, as well as via social media, email and the Armstrong Neighborhood Channel.
[Mahoning Valley] Much of the success for Avenge Hunger Month comes from community partners who help to collect donations. Breaking Bread successfully raised hundreds of pounds of non-perishable food plus over $3,000 in monetary donations for Second Harvest Food Bank and Gleaners Youngstown Community Food Center in 2021. Donation sites for 2022 include Armstrong in North Lima, local Sparkle Markets, Giant Eagle in Canfield, Nemenz IGA in Struthers, Davis Family YMCA, High Octane Coffee in Boardman, Glista Agency in Canfield, Gateways to Better Living in Austintown, Eastwood Mall and HMS Mfg. Co. in Youngstown. Please plan to stop at one of our food drives at Austintown Park Summer Concert August 30th with band Blue Siren 7-8:30pm, Boardman Fire Station 71 on Market St. September 10th from noon-3pm and at our Armstrong North Lima office September 23rd from 9am-5pm. You can enter for a chance to win a new Chromebook at the Austintown Summer Concert or our Armstrong food drive! We will draw a winner that day.
Armstrong’s Breaking Bread initiative began in 2010 with the purpose of feeding those who are food-insecure within the communities Armstrong serves. It is a four-pronged approach that includes collecting food and money, volunteering time plus creating public awareness. The first Avenge Hunger Month was held in September of 2018 to help bring more awareness to Breaking Bread and generate more donations to help local feeding programs.
