SUMMARY:National Bittersweet Chocolate Day
DESCRIPTION:Chocolate lovers\, rejoice! National Bittersweet Chocolate Day on January 10th gives you the excuse to indulge in some chocolate satisfaction. (National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day is celebrated on November 7th.) \n\n\n \n\n\n\n#BittersweetChocolateDay\n\n\n\nChocolate comes from the seed of the tropical Theobroma cacao tree. Cacao\, which has been cultivated for at least three millennia\, is grown in Mexico\, Central America\, and Northern South America. The earliest known documentation of the use of cacao seeds is around 1100 BC. The cacao tree seed has an intensely bitter taste and must be fermented to develop the flavor.\n\n\nOnce the seeds have been fermented\, the beans are then dried\, cleaned\, and roasted. After roasting\, the shell is removed to produce cacao nibs. The cacao nibs are then ground into a cocoa mass which is pure chocolate in rough form.  Usually\, the cocoa mass is liquefied then molded with or without other ingredients. This is called chocolate liquor. The chocolate liquor may then be processed into two components: cocoa solids and cocoa butter. \n\nBittersweet chocolate is chocolate liquor to which sugar\, cocoa butter\, and vanilla have been added. It does have less sugar and more liquor than semisweet chocolate. However\, the two of them may be interchangeable when baking. \nStudies have revealed that there are certain health benefits from eating bittersweet chocolate in moderation\, such as lowering blood pressure and helping to protect the heart. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE DAY\nBittersweet chocolate offers many ways to celebrate. We can go in so many directions with bittersweet chocolate. Add a little to your baking or sprinkle a little in your morning coffee. Do you like pudding or chocolate chip cookies? This is the chocolate for you. The choice is up to you which delicious chocolate creation you make. However\, once you decide\, be sure to share your creations\, too. \nUse #BittersweetChocolateDay to post on social media. \nSource Link:

SUMMARY:National Trivia Day
DESCRIPTION:What National Day on January 4th celebrates those who accumulate and hoard tidbits of useless trivia? National Trivia Day\, of course! \n\n\n \n\n\n\n#NationalTriviaDay\n\n\n\nThe holiday recognizes the collectors of unconnected\, irrelevant data\, facts\, history\, and quotes each year. They are the ones who usually proffer these sometimes astounding bits of history when friends and family least expect it. \nIn ancient times\, the term “trivia” was appropriated to mean something very new. \nNostalgic college students in the 1960s began to informally trade questions and answers about the popular culture of their youth. After writing trivia columns\, Columbia University students Ed Goodgold and Dan Carlinsky created the earliest inter-collegiate quiz bowls. They tested culturally (and emotionally) significant yet virtually useless information. The students dubbed the tests trivia contests. TThey later published Trivia (Dell\, 1966)\, the first book treating trivia in the revolutionary new sense. This book also achieved a ranking on the New York Times bestseller list. \n\nOver time\, the word “trivia” has come to refer to obscure and arcane bits of dry knowledge. It also refers to nostalgic remembrances of pop culture.\nIn North America\, Trivial Pursuit peaked in 1984\, when consumers bought over 20 million games.\nSteven Point\, Wisconsin\, holds the largest current trivia contest at the University of  Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s college radio station WWSP 89.9 FM. During the April 2013 event\, the university hosted the 44th annual contest. Typically\, 400 teams participate\, ranging from 1 to 150 players. The competition is open to anyone. It spans 54 hours over a weekend with eight questions each hour.\nThe first season of the popular television trivia show Jeopardy! premiered on March 30\, 1964.\n\n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVED NATIONAL TRIVIA DAY\nAre you into trivia? Challenge someone to a trivia contest\, attend a trivia night\, or host one at home. Show off your trivia savvy. While you’re at it\, find out how much you know about the National Days. See if you can answer these questions. Some of them\, we aren’t even sure of the answers.

SUMMARY:National Spaghetti Day
DESCRIPTION:National Spaghetti Day on January 4th offers an opportunity to pick your sauce and add it to that long\, thin cylindrical pasta of Italian and Sicilian origin. Usually made from semolina flour\, this pasta has been a worldwide favorite for ages and loved by millions. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n#NationalSpaghettiDay\n\n\n\nThere are various pasta dishes based on spaghetti\, and the sauce determines most of them. Some examples include spaghetti ala Carbonara\, garlic and oil\, tomato sauce\, meat sauce\, bolognese\, Alfredo sauce\, clam sauce\, or other sauces. In addition\, we traditionally serve spaghetti dishes topped with grated hard cheeses such as Pecorino Romano\, Parmesan\, and Grana Padano. \nThe word spaghetti is plural for the Italian word spaghetto\, which is a diminutive of spago\, meaning “thin  string” or “twine.” \n\n\n\n\nAmerican restaurants offered spaghetti around the end of the 19th century as Spaghetti Italienne (which is believed to have consisted of noodles cooked past al dente and a mild tomato sauce flavored with easily found spices and vegetables such as cloves\, bay leaves\, and garlic). Decades later\, cooks added oregano and basil to many recipes. \nSpaghetti Origins\nThere is a significant debate on the origin of spaghetti. However\, we do know that we’ve been consuming pasta for many\, many years. There are records in the Jerusalem Talmud of itrium\, a kind of boiled dough commonly available in Palestine from the 3rd to 5th centuries AD. A 9th-century Arab dictionary describes itriyyaas as string-like shapes made of semolina and dried before cooking. A 1154 writing for the Norman King of Sicily\, mentions itriyya as being manufactured and exported from Norman Sicily. Dried pasta became popular in the 14th and 15th centuries due to its easy storage. People stored the dried pasta in ships when exploring the New World. A century later\, pasta was present around the globe during the voyages of discovery. (Wikipedia) \n\n\n \nOn Top of Spaghetti\nIn March of 2009\, the world record for the largest bowl of spaghetti was set and then reset in March of 2010 when a Garden Grove California Buca di Beppo restaurant successfully filled a swimming pool with more than 13\,780 pounds of pasta. \nSung to the tune of “On Top of Old Smoky\,” the fun children’s song\, “On Top of Spaghetti\,” was written and originally sung by folk singer Tom Glazer with the Do-Re-Mi Children’s Chorus in 1963. \n“On top of spaghetti\,\nAll covered with cheese\,\nI lost my poor meatball\,\nWhen somebody sneezed. \nIt rolled off the table\,\nAnd on to the floor\,\nAnd then my poor meatball\,\nRolled out of the door.” \nCOOK\, EAT\, CELEBRATE\nMake your favorite spaghetti dish\, and be sure to make enough to share. Of course\, you can always invite friends to join you at your favorite Italian restaurant and split a plate. If you do\, be sure to tag the restaurant and use #NationalSpaghettiDay to post on social media. \nSource Link.

SUMMARY:National Thank God It's Monday Day
DESCRIPTION:National Thank God It’s Monday Day encourages us to celebrate the first Monday of the new year with vigor and energy. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n#ThankGodItsMondayDay\n\n\n\nNot only does the observance focus on the first Monday in January\, but on every Monday throughout the year. Mondays are often full of new beginnings. New jobs often start on Mondays. Couples usually marry on weekends and a Monday represents the first work week of their new lives together. Many federal holidays take place on Mondays and therefore special occasions frequently take place on Mondays throughout the year. \nBesides the scheduled events\, many random events occur on a Monday. When Monday repeats between 52 and 53 times out of the year\, important things will happen. It’s 1/7th of our life. Blaming Monday for our woes (traffic) doesn’t improve our personal track record in life (being late). Stop shaming Monday and look at what Monday has to offer. \n\nFreshly brewed coffee to keep us perky\nOpportunity for a bright future\n52 chances to see a beautiful sunrise\nA new week share your talents with the world\n52 opportunities to teach someone a new skill that will better their lives\nEach Monday offers the potential of meeting new people\n\n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE THANK GOD IT’S MONDAY\nEnjoy the first Monday of the year. SUMMARY:National NonProfit Day
DESCRIPTION:On August 17th\, National Nonprofit Day (NND) recognizes the goals and positive impacts nonprofits have on communities and the world. \n#NationalNonprofitDay\nSomewhere a volunteer reads to school children. At the same time\, a patient receives steady medication. A lawyer provides legal services for low-income individuals. A lost soul’s life is remembered with dignity\, thanks to a nonprofit funeral home. Elsewhere\, a first-time homebuyer moves into his own home. NND reminds us that each of these scenes is possible thanks to the nonprofit sector. It’s the result of the work performed by capable people and organizations. \nJeffrey’s Journey Through COVID-19 \n \nThrough nonprofits\, awareness\, research\, and aid reach the people who need it most. Nonprofits also generate tremendous benefits to their surrounding communities and the broader world. \nFor example\, following the recent U.S. recession in 2012\, the nonprofit sector provided 5.4% of the nation’s entire GDP (gross domestic product)\, or $887.3 billion. Non-profits continuously employing nurses\, web developers\, lawyers\, computer engineers\, and more (sources: John Hopkins and Tactical Philanthropy Advisors reports).

SUMMARY:International Left Handers Day
DESCRIPTION:International Left Handers Day on August 13th recognizes all those individuals who have mastered using their left hand in a right-handed world. We take our hats off to you – left-handed! \n#LeftHandersDay\nApproximately 10% of the population are southpaws. Scientists don’t know why a person develops left-handedness. But it’s more likely a child will be left-handed if one parent is a lefty\, too. Parents of left-handed children used to force them to use their right hands. In the eyes of right-handers\, the predominant use of the left hand seemed evil. Parents feared their communities would shun their children. While we accept left-handedness more readily than days gone by\, its occurrence hasn’t increased. \nFamous Cartoonist Joe Wos\, founder of mazetoons\, states that his favorite day to celebrate is International Left Handers Day\, being a lefty himself. \nCelebrating International Left Handers Day this August\nFamous Lefties\nMany lefties seek to blend in because they will stand out soon enough. Their unique quality makes them feel awkward. They bump elbows or seem like a klutz. However\, in a world designed for the right-handed\, those who are other dominant adapt quite well. For example\, eight United States presidents were left-handed\, including Ronald Reagan\, George H.W. Bush\, Bill Clinton\, and Barack Obama. Would the Sistine Chapel and the Mona Lisa stand the test of time if Michaelangelo and Leonardo de Vinci had been right-handed? \nUncommon Individual\nLeft Handers Day recognizes the uncommon individual who throws\, catches\, writes\, and uses a fork with their left hand. They view the world just a little differently\, too. At a restaurant\, they seek out the seat that will place their dominant elbow on the outside of the booth. Right-handed athletes groan a bit when the southpaw shows up as an opponent on the roster. They present a challenge right-handers aren’t always sure how to handle due to lack of practice. And yet\, lefties square off against righties all the time. \n\nDon’t be shy on Left-Handers Day. Show the world how brilliant and unique you are!

SUMMARY:National Sister Day
DESCRIPTION:National Sisters Day on the first Sunday in August celebrates the unique bond between sisters. This particular set of siblings embrace moments that make them laugh and cringe. While they don’t always agree\, sisters have each other’s backs. \n#NationalSistersDay\nAll siblings have the odd argument here and there\, but deep down there’s little way around the natural connection between siblings. Even those who don’t have a natural sister sibling know the bonds of sisterhood. Those who forge a relationship with their spouse’s sisters understand. Also\, women who support each other through difficult times form a sisterhood. \nCelebrating National Sister Day on this Sunday \n \nA sister is like yourself in a different movie\,\na movie that stars you in a different life. ~ Deborah Tannen \nNo two sisters are alike. From love interests to cars\, sisters will disagree. And food\, cleaning\, and children require interventions. However\, we rely on each other while privately envying a sister’s style\, ability or grace. A sister understands when no one else does\, sometimes when even you don’t. So\, sister time provides vital healing. \nWhether your sisters harrassed you from day one or found you later in life\, this day brings you back together. Cherish the memories and make plans to create new ones. Reconnect or patch up any misunderstandings. Sisters are forever.

SUMMARY:National Friendship Day
DESCRIPTION:Friendships come in many forms\, and we begin developing them when we’re very young. Throughout our lives\, friendships and their meanings evolve. Our classmates and neighborhood pals explored the world with us. Together we shared experiences and made plans for the future. Eventually\, paths diverge and new friends find a place in our social experience. Our world expands and our culture changes. \nWith each new friend\, we expand our view of the world. Their experiences contribute to new meaning in our lives. Through friendships\, we grow and broaden our horizons. Eventually\, the world becomes smaller and more connected. \nCelebrating National Friendship Day on this Sunday

DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL CHEESECAKE DAY | JULY 30\nNational Cheesecake Day on July 30th offers a slice of one of America’s favorite desserts. Order up a cheesecake with your favorite topping. Get it delivered or make it at home. \n#NationalCheesecakeDay\nThis smooth dessert hits the spot when the end of the meal rolls around. While most cakes have a crumb\, cheesecake’s texture is nothing like cake. Indeed\, its creamy\, thick pudding-like character comes from the soft cheese used as the main ingredient. Depending on the recipe\, either cream cheese or cottage cheese is used. When the cheese is mixed with sugar\, eggs\, and other ingredients\, the batter is added to a crust. \nE53: Chef Chris Bonacci\, Food trends\, easy recipes & meal ideas to help you cook smarter for the Holidays \n \nWhen making cheesecake\, one of the most common crusts used is a graham cracker crust. Other options include a cookie crust\, pastry or sponge cake. However\, some cheesecakes are crustless. Recipes vary and cheesecakes may be prepared baked or unbaked. \nWhen faced with choosing a cheesecake flavor\, don’t panic. While the options may seem overwhelming\, bakers solved this problem. They offer a variety of flavors in one cake. So\, take one home and try each one. Since cheesecakes do come in a wide variety\, consider your tastes. If you prefer summer fruits and berries\, cheesecakes have you covered. Tropical options hit the spot\, too. For coffee lovers\, bakers provide a rich selection. And don’t forget delicious chocolate and nutty flavors. Each cheesecake may be served with fresh fruit\, a sauce\, whipped cream or plain.

SUMMARY:National Ice Cream Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY |  THIRD SUNDAY IN JULY\nDish or cone? That’s all we need to know. National Ice Cream Day on the 3rd Sunday in July offers up every flavor on the menu to honor the day! The holiday also lands in the middle of National Ice Cream Month. \n#NationalIceCreamDay\nThousands of years ago\, people in the Persian Empire put snow in a bowl\, poured concentrated grape juice over it\, and ate it as a treat. Even when the weather was hot\, they would savor this sweet treat. Their trick? They placed snow in underground chambers known as yakchal where the temperatures kept the snow from melting. The Persians also hiked to the mountain tops by their summer capital to gather snowfall. \nhttps://spanningtheneed.com/2022/07/16/celebrating-national-ice-cream-day-on-july-16/ \nThe Chinese\, under the Tang Dynasty around 697 AD\, took to freezing dairy with salt and ice. However\, the results aren’t exactly the ice cream we enjoy today. Frozen treats and beverages later\, culinary folks point to Naples\, Italy as the birthplace of the first ice cream. They give credit to Antonio Latini. He was born in 1642 and created a milk-based sorbet. \nIn the United States\, the Quaker colonists earn the nod for bringing their ice recipes over with them. They opened the first ice cream shops\, including shops in New York and other cities during the colonial era.

It is National Mac and Cheese Day! \nCelebrating National Mac and Cheese Day on July 14th \n \n#NationalMacAndCheeseDay\nMade with macaroni noodles\, cream or milk\, and the golden goodness of cheese\, mac and cheese shines as a side dish while also standing on its own as a main dish. This meal reminds many of us of home while also teaching us the basics of the kitchen. It’s easy to get a toasty crust by setting the broiler for a couple of minutes at the end of the cooking time. \nMac and cheese offers a multitude of ways to enjoy it\, too. As a soup\, it warms us up after a long day. Stuff it inside a meatloaf or a burger for a meal made for a hungry\, busy family. Roll up bite-sized bits in bread crumbs and deep fry for mouthwatering appetizers. Put your favorite mac and cheese between two slices of crusty bread. Then put into a panini press for some grilled yumminess. Whether we like it mild or spicy\, mac and cheese has us covered.

On July 4th\, communities host speeches and ceremonies across the nation. Across the country\, people crowd cities for parades and festivals. Cities deck the streets in red\, white\, and blue bunting and flags. \nFamilies and friends also gather for some of the most mouthwatering food – large picnics and barbecues\, local fairs provide a taste of culture and mom’s home cooking\, too. With so many converging on their hometowns\, family and school reunions take place. \nFire Works\nBefore the day is over\, many communities hold spectacular fireworks displays re-enacting moments of victory. Patriotic music accompanies the performance while spectators view the show from blankets strewn along capital lawns or from boats floating in bays. Whether our National Anthem\, “The Star-Spangled Banner” or “God Bless America\,” many will sing along. In some locations\, music will be played by a live orchestra or band\, while in other areas it’s pre-recorded. Some of the most popular on the playlist are “America the Beautiful\,” “My Country\, Tis of Thee\,” “This Land Is Your Land\,” “Stars and Stripes Forever\,” “God Bless the U.S.A.\,” “Yankee Doodle” and “Dixie.” \nIn some parts of the country\, people will shoot their own fireworks while children delight in the bright colors and sparklers. SUMMARY:National PTSD Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY | JUNE 27\nEach year on June 27th\, National PTSD Awareness Day recognizes the effects post-traumatic stress has on the lives of those impacted by it. \n#NationalPTSDAwarenessDay\nPost Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has a profound effect on the lives of those who suffer from it. The statistics alone are staggering\, but can only tell a portion of the story. The trauma and anxiety associated with PTSD is a constant burden\, inseparable from the sufferer. It was once a condition that was attributed only to returning combat veterans\, but more and more the condition is diagnosed in those who have experienced violent crime or lived through catastrophic events. According to PTSD United\, 20% of adults in the United States who have experienced a traumatic event suffer from PTSD. \nThe observance not only strives to bring awareness to the public but to also educate and eliminate the stigma associated with PTSD. Many of those with PTSD don’t seek treatment. Sometimes they simply fear the labels attached to PTSD. However\, with support and understanding\, we may all better understand the signs and provide better care. \n\nTrouble sleeping\nReliving memories of the event\nAnxious or on edge\nAvoidance of things or people who remind you of the event\n\nOver time\, these signs may fade. However\, if they don’t\, seeking treatment is not only suggested but helpful to many who suffer from PTSD. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY\nReach out to someone you know who struggles with PTSD. Let them know you care and are there to help. Learn more about PTSD at NIMH or VA.gov. Use #NationalPTSDAwarenessDay to share on social media. \nNATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY HISTORY\nThe United States Senate established PTSD Awareness Day in 2010 following then-Sen. Kent Conrad’s efforts to designate a day of awareness as a tribute to Army Staff Sgt. Joe Biel of the North Dakota National Guard. Biel suffered from PTSD and took his life in April 2007 after returning to North Dakota following his second tour of duty in the Iraq War. \nBiel’s birthday\, June 27th\, was chosen to mark PTSD Awareness Day and honor his memory. \nSource: National Day Calendar

SUMMARY:Fathers Day
DESCRIPTION:On the third Sunday in June\, Father’s Day honors the role fathers play in the family structure and society. The day recognizes not just fathers\, but the father figures in our lives. These are the men we look up to who set solid examples for us and guide us throughout our lives. \n#FathersDay\nMany families dedicate the day to their fathers and grandfathers. Whether they are first-time fathers just learning to change a diaper\, or experienced fathers offering sage advice\, the day celebrates everything a father is. Fathers from family to family play a variety of roles. They may be a caregiver\, provider\, or advisor. Some fathers are the strong\, silent types. And yet others tell us stories for days. Fathers teach\, guiding small hands as they hammer a nail or sail a kite. \nWe only look up to our fathers for so long. At some point\, we begin to see things a little differently. But that’s not when we stop looking up to them. It’s at that point\, we turn and look forward together. \nSTN Inspirational Quotes To Keep You Inspired in 2021

The celebration takes place each year on June 19th\, recognizing an event that took place in Texas in 1865. \n#Juneteenth\nThe story of Juneteenth begins in Texas when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston on June 19\, 1865\, with an announcement. SUMMARY:National Smile Power Day
DESCRIPTION:On June 15th each year\, National Smile Power Day shares one powerful expression. \n#SmilePowerDay\nFrom the good morning greeting and the first “How may I help you?” present yourself with a smile. No matter where you are employed\, job seeking\, retired\, or looking for new horizons starting the day with a smile is certainly more empowering than a pout or grump. Starting with a smile first is easier than trying to get there later in the day. \nWhen you smile at someone\, you are telling them that they are valued and worth the smile that you just gave them. Smiles are morale boosters and confidence builders. \nResearch has proven that smiling really does increase attractiveness and likability among humans. Smiling creates greater trust and increased interpersonal cooperation. Smiling at someone can help them to relax and relieve their stress while at the same time\, it will make you feel at ease\, too. Even if you do not feel like it\, smiling will lift your mood and can make you a happier person. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SMILE POWER DAY\nChallenge yourself to smile more often today. Use a smile to disarm a tense situation\, or simply smile during your daily tasks. Are you having trouble smiling? \nTips to Help You Smile\n\nThink of a few happy moments that automatically generate a smile for you. You know\, those moments where you belly laughed until your stomach hurts or a time when you were so pleased with yourself your face hurt from smiling. Keep those memories handy and use them to help you smile more often.\nSave a couple of short jokes that are just so silly you can’t help but smile. Tell them to others\, too. The best ones are simple children’s jokes or riddles that play on words.\nLearn Spoonerisms. This fun way of swapping letters in two words in a phrase to make new words make people stop and think. And then they smile and so will you! An example of a Spoonerism is instead of ordering peas and carrots at a restaurant you say\, “I’ll have the keys and parrots.”\nMake a list of the things you’re grateful for. Which ones make you smile? Keep the list handy and refer to it often. Add to it and feel your smiles add up.\n\nUse #SmilePowerDay on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:D Day
DESCRIPTION:D-Day is June 6 on the National Day Calendar and we are honoring those who fought on the beaches of Normandy\, France. This historical day is a reminder of the day troops of Allied forces staged one of the most pivotal attacks against Germany during World War II. \n#DDay\nThe Battle of Normandy was executed under the codename Operation Overlord and became known as the beginning of the end of World War II. The Battle of Normandy was along a 50 mile stretch of beaches\, including Utah and Omaha Beach. While many explanations exist for the name\, one reason may be due to the military countdown. The countdown designated the day and hour of the assault. D represented Day and H represented Hour in the military. \nThe battle liberated Northern France. Britain\, the United States\, and Canada sent more than 160\,000 Allied troops under the leadership of General Dwight Eisenhower. The troops manned more than 5\,000 ships and 13\,000 aircraft the day of the initial landing. The invasion is considered one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. An amphibious military operation requires the use of naval ships to project ground and air power at a designated landing beach. Due to the sheer numbers of troops\, ships\, and aircraft involved\, Operation Overlord required extensive planning. \nMessage to the troops of Normandy: “You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade\, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you.” \nDwight Eisenhower\, Supreme Allied Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force\, 1944 \n6 Interesting D-Day Facts\n\nAbout 150\,000 Allied troops successfully carried out their mission to storm the beaches of Normandy. Unfortunately\, nearly 10\,000 lives were lost on that day.\nThe Normandy invasion a vital turn in the war began to turn the tide in the war against the Nazis and was a huge blow to Hitler.\nThe Normandy Invasion is one of the most significant events of WWII.\nAllied forces consisted of troops from Australia\, Belgium\, Netherlands\, France\, Greece\, New Zealand\, Norway\, and Poland.\nOver 18\,000 Allied paratroopers were dropped into the invasion area.\nA few months before D-Day\, General Eisenhower threatened to quit due to being at odds with Winston Churchill over a controversial plan.\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE D-Day\nOn June 6th\, World War II museums\, memorials\, and ceremonies honor the Allied forces who landed along the 50 mile stretch of beaches in 1944. \n\nLearn more about the Battle of Normandy by exploring World War II museums.\nVisit the National D-Day Memorial to attend the D-Day Commemoration at the WWII Memorial.\nFly the American flag.\nVisit with a combat veteran and learn about their experiences.\nWatch Band of Brothers\, which is a true story of U.S. Army’s Easy Company\, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division.\nRead books about the Battle of Normandy or listen to a podcast such as:\n\nD-Day Girls: The Spies Who Armed the Resistance\, Sabotaged the Nazis\, and Helped Win World War II by Sarah Rose.\nThe Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan.\nNormandy ’44: D-Day and the Battle for France by James Holland.\nPegasus Bridge by Stephen E. SUMMARY:National Doughnut Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on the first Friday in June\, people participate in National Doughnut or Donut Day\, celebrating the doughnut and honoring the Salvation Army Lassies. The Salvation Army Lassies are the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during WWI. \n#NationalDoughnutDay \nIn 1917\, the original “Salvation Army Doughnut” was first served by the ladies of the Salvation Army. It was during WWI that the Salvation Army Lassies went to the front lines of Europe. Home-cooked foods\, provided by these brave volunteers\, were a morale boost to the troops. \nThe doughnuts were often cooked in oil inside the metal helmets of American soldiers. American infantrymen were then commonly called “doughboys.” A more standard spelling of the word is “donut.” \nOn this day\, many bakeries and coffee shops in the United States offer doughnut deals to their customers. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY \nCelebrate the day by enjoying your favorite doughnut. There are many varieties of doughnuts to choose from\, too! Whether you prefer glazed or creme-filled\, holes\, or any number of deliciously made doughnuts\, get out there and support your local bakeries. Pick up a dozen to deliver to first responders\, a nursing station\, or your favorite charity. Use #NationalDonutDay or #NationalDoughnutDay when using social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Say Something Nice Day
DESCRIPTION:On National Say Something Nice Day we have an opportunity to make June 1st extra pleasant for everyone. \n#SaySomethingNiceDay\nThe purpose of this holiday is to counteract bullying and the lack of civility and common courtesy that is growing among people in today’s world. Hopefully\, the practice of saying something nice today will continue into all tomorrows. \nWhen we were young\, many of us often heard\, “If you can’t say something nice\, don’t say anything at all.” One of the many reasons our parents taught us that is because once we say those words\, we can’t take them back\, no matter how true we think they might be. We all know someone whose true nature is kinder than most. Perhaps we even wish we could emulate them more than we do. \n\n\n\nDo they pay compliments or do they follow this old saying? Perhaps a little of both. But there are a few other lessons we can learn from generally nice people. It’s more than saying nice things to others. They genuinely listen to others and tend to put others first. When they pay a compliment\, it isn’t usually practiced. Their sincerity is felt by the receiver. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SAY SOMETHING NICE DAY\nThink about the nicest person you know. Take a cue from them and put one of their better qualities into practice. Say something nice to or about someone. Bring a smile to someone’s face for the sheer joy of seeing them smile. Seek no reward other than knowing that someone’s day is better because a nice word was said. \nSource Link
