SUMMARY:National PTSD Awareness Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY | JUNE 27\nEach year on June 27th\, National PTSD Awareness Day recognizes the effects post-traumatic stress has on the lives of those impacted by it. \n#NationalPTSDAwarenessDay\nPost Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has a profound effect on the lives of those who suffer from it. The statistics alone are staggering\, but can only tell a portion of the story. The trauma and anxiety associated with PTSD is a constant burden\, inseparable from the sufferer. It was once a condition that was attributed only to returning combat veterans\, but more and more the condition is diagnosed in those who have experienced violent crime or lived through catastrophic events. According to PTSD United\, 20% of adults in the United States who have experienced a traumatic event suffer from PTSD. \nThe observance not only strives to bring awareness to the public but to also educate and eliminate the stigma associated with PTSD. Many of those with PTSD don’t seek treatment. Sometimes they simply fear the labels attached to PTSD. However\, with support and understanding\, we may all better understand the signs and provide better care. \n\nTrouble sleeping\nReliving memories of the event\nAnxious or on edge\nAvoidance of things or people who remind you of the event\n\nOver time\, these signs may fade. However\, if they don’t\, seeking treatment is not only suggested but helpful to many who suffer from PTSD. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY\nReach out to someone you know who struggles with PTSD. Let them know you care and are there to help. Learn more about PTSD at NIMH or VA.gov. Use #NationalPTSDAwarenessDay to share on social media. \nNATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY HISTORY\nThe United States Senate established PTSD Awareness Day in 2010 following then-Sen. Kent Conrad’s efforts to designate a day of awareness as a tribute to Army Staff Sgt. Joe Biel of the North Dakota National Guard. Biel suffered from PTSD and took his life in April 2007 after returning to North Dakota following his second tour of duty in the Iraq War. \nBiel’s birthday\, June 27th\, was chosen to mark PTSD Awareness Day and honor his memory. \nSource: National Day Calendar

SUMMARY:Independence Day (USA)
DESCRIPTION:INDEPENDENCE DAY\nEach year on July 4th\, the United States celebrates Independence Day. This federal holiday commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4\, 1776\, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.  \nFor nearly 250 years\, the country has been celebrating a day in history that inspires us still today. On July 4th\, communities host speeches and ceremonies across the nation. Across the country\, people crowd cities for parades and festivals. Cities deck the streets in red\, white\, and blue bunting and flags. \nFamilies and friends also gather for some of the most mouthwatering food – large picnics and barbecues\, local fairs provide a taste of culture and mom’s home cooking\, too. With so many converging on their hometowns\, family and school reunions take place. \nFire Works\nBefore the day is over\, many communities hold spectacular fireworks displays re-enacting moments of victory. Patriotic music accompanies the performance while spectators view the show from blankets strewn along capital lawns or from boats floating in bays. Whether our National Anthem\, “The Star-Spangled Banner” or “God Bless America\,” many will sing along. In some locations\, music will be played by a live orchestra or band\, while in other areas it’s pre-recorded. Some of the most popular on the playlist are “America the Beautiful\,” “My Country\, Tis of Thee\,” “This Land Is Your Land\,” “Stars and Stripes Forever\,” “God Bless the U.S.A.\,” “Yankee Doodle” and “Dixie.” \nIn some parts of the country\, people will shoot their own fireworks while children delight in the bright colors and sparklers. They roast marshmallows and make s’ mores. \nHOW TO OBSERVE #IndependenceDay #July4th #4thOfJuly #FourthOfJuly\nSpend the day celebrating independence. Attend local events or travel the nation to see friends and relatives. \n\nAt noon\, a “Salute to the Union” is fired\, each July 4th\, by any capable military base. This is a salute of one gun for each state in the United States. \nIn 2009\, New York City hosted the largest fireworks display in the country. \nHeld since 1785\, the Bristol Fourth of July Parade in Bristol\, Rhode Island\, is the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration in the United States. \n\nShare your celebrations using #IndependenceDay\, #July4th\, #4thOfJuly\, FourthOfJuly on social media.

SUMMARY:National Mac and Cheese Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL MAC AND CHEESE DAY | JULY 14\nOne of the classic comfort foods earns a place of honor on July 14th. It is National Mac and Cheese Day! \nCelebrating National Mac and Cheese Day on July 14th \n \n#NationalMacAndCheeseDay\nMade with macaroni noodles\, cream or milk\, and the golden goodness of cheese\, mac and cheese shines as a side dish while also standing on its own as a main dish. This meal reminds many of us of home while also teaching us the basics of the kitchen. What other recipes allow us to create so flamboyantly and often with so little knowledge about cooking? \nFrom the classic mac and cheese with cheddar or American cheeses to the spicy cowboy mac with bacon and jalapenos\, there’s a combination for everyone. Mix up the cheeses or load up on seasonings. It’s easy to get a toasty crust by setting the broiler for a couple of minutes at the end of the cooking time. \nMac and cheese offers a multitude of ways to enjoy it\, too. As a soup\, it warms us up after a long day. Stuff it inside a meatloaf or a burger for a meal made for a hungry\, busy family. Roll up bite-sized bits in bread crumbs and deep fry for mouthwatering appetizers. Put your favorite mac and cheese between two slices of crusty bread. Then put into a panini press for some grilled yumminess. Whether we like it mild or spicy\, mac and cheese has us covered.

SUMMARY:National Ice Cream Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY |  THIRD SUNDAY IN JULY\nDish or cone? That’s all we need to know. National Ice Cream Day on the 3rd Sunday in July offers up every flavor on the menu to honor the day! The holiday also lands in the middle of National Ice Cream Month. \n#NationalIceCreamDay\nThousands of years ago\, people in the Persian Empire put snow in a bowl\, poured concentrated grape juice over it\, and ate it as a treat. Even when the weather was hot\, they would savor this sweet treat. Their trick? They placed snow in underground chambers known as yakchal where the temperatures kept the snow from melting. The Persians also hiked to the mountain tops by their summer capital to gather snowfall. \nhttps://spanningtheneed.com/2022/07/16/celebrating-national-ice-cream-day-on-july-16/ \nThe Chinese\, under the Tang Dynasty around 697 AD\, took to freezing dairy with salt and ice. However\, the results aren’t exactly the ice cream we enjoy today. Frozen treats and beverages later\, culinary folks point to Naples\, Italy as the birthplace of the first ice cream. They give credit to Antonio Latini. He was born in 1642 and created a milk-based sorbet. \nIn the United States\, the Quaker colonists earn the nod for bringing their ice recipes over with them. They opened the first ice cream shops\, including shops in New York and other cities during the colonial era.

SUMMARY:National Love is Kind Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL LOVE IS KIND DAY | July 27\nJust as on July 4th Americans celebrate their independence\, so is July 27th to be celebrated—a day to celebrate independence from the abuser. July 27th\, National Love is Kind Day is the day to: \n\nCelebrate for all victims of domestic violence/domestic abuse their FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE from their abuser.\nRecognize our right to be treated with KINDNESS. Because real love is kind\, not terrorizing.\nRealize that kindness is the path to healthy and safer relationships\, families\, society\, and the world.\nGive voice for and hope and support to others who are still suffering\, often in silence.\nSpread messages how we can be kind to one another\, especially to those closest to us.\nRemember that love is not abusive\, violent\, demeaning or dehumanizing.  If someone uses love as an excuse for their hurtful behavior\, it’s not real love.\n\nWith every generation\, the cycle of abuse continues to cripple families\, especially women and children who are most vulnerable. The cycle of abuse must stop now. \nCelebrating National Love is Kind Day\, Joyful and Productive Life on July 27th \n \n#NationalLoveIsKindDay\nNational Love is Kind Day encourages you to become aware of how you are treating people\, how people are treating you\, and how you can become emboldened\, supported\, and empowered to lead the joyful and productive life you deserve. With improved and proper support\, families can know and experience the freedom and love found in an abuse-free home. Children grow up with positive role models\, and both adults and children lead more productive\, happy\, and mentally healthy lives. \nThe day is an opportunity to say “No to abuse\, violence\, and ridicule! And begin saying\, “Yes\, to kindness!  And yes\, to sharing my voice! Yes\, I am worth it and my life matters. Kindness rules!”

SUMMARY:National Cheesecake Day
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL CHEESECAKE DAY | JULY 30\nNational Cheesecake Day on July 30th offers a slice of one of America’s favorite desserts. Order up a cheesecake with your favorite topping. Get it delivered or make it at home. \n#NationalCheesecakeDay\nThis smooth dessert hits the spot when the end of the meal rolls around. While most cakes have a crumb\, cheesecake’s texture is nothing like cake. Indeed\, its creamy\, thick pudding-like character comes from the soft cheese used as the main ingredient. Depending on the recipe\, either cream cheese or cottage cheese is used. When the cheese is mixed with sugar\, eggs\, and other ingredients\, the batter is added to a crust. \nE53: Chef Chris Bonacci\, Food trends\, easy recipes & meal ideas to help you cook smarter for the Holidays \n \nWhen making cheesecake\, one of the most common crusts used is a graham cracker crust. Other options include a cookie crust\, pastry or sponge cake. However\, some cheesecakes are crustless. Recipes vary and cheesecakes may be prepared baked or unbaked. \nWhen faced with choosing a cheesecake flavor\, don’t panic. While the options may seem overwhelming\, bakers solved this problem. They offer a variety of flavors in one cake. So\, take one home and try each one. Since cheesecakes do come in a wide variety\, consider your tastes. If you prefer summer fruits and berries\, cheesecakes have you covered. Tropical options hit the spot\, too. For coffee lovers\, bakers provide a rich selection. And don’t forget delicious chocolate and nutty flavors. Each cheesecake may be served with fresh fruit\, a sauce\, whipped cream or plain.

SUMMARY:National Friendship Day
DESCRIPTION:Friendships come in many forms\, and we begin developing them when we’re very young. Throughout our lives\, friendships and their meanings evolve. Our classmates and neighborhood pals explored the world with us. Together we shared experiences and made plans for the future. Eventually\, paths diverge and new friends find a place in our social experience. Our world expands and our culture changes. \nWith each new friend\, we expand our view of the world. Their experiences contribute to new meaning in our lives. Through friendships\, we grow and broaden our horizons. Eventually\, the world becomes smaller and more connected. \nCelebrating National Friendship Day on this Sunday

SUMMARY:National Sister Day
DESCRIPTION:National Sisters Day on the first Sunday in August celebrates the unique bond between sisters. This particular set of siblings embrace moments that make them laugh and cringe. While they don’t always agree\, sisters have each other’s backs. \n#NationalSistersDay\nAll siblings have the odd argument here and there\, but deep down there’s little way around the natural connection between siblings. Even those who don’t have a natural sister sibling know the bonds of sisterhood. Those who forge a relationship with their spouse’s sisters understand. Also\, women who support each other through difficult times form a sisterhood. \nCelebrating National Sister Day on this Sunday \n \nA sister is like yourself in a different movie\,\na movie that stars you in a different life. ~ Deborah Tannen \nNo two sisters are alike. From love interests to cars\, sisters will disagree. And food\, cleaning\, and children require interventions. However\, we rely on each other while privately envying a sister’s style\, ability or grace. A sister understands when no one else does\, sometimes when even you don’t. So\, sister time provides vital healing. \nWhether your sisters harrassed you from day one or found you later in life\, this day brings you back together. Cherish the memories and make plans to create new ones. Reconnect or patch up any misunderstandings. Sisters are forever.

SUMMARY:International Left Handers Day
DESCRIPTION:International Left Handers Day on August 13th recognizes all those individuals who have mastered using their left hand in a right-handed world. We take our hats off to you – left-handed! \n#LeftHandersDay\nApproximately 10% of the population are southpaws. Scientists don’t know why a person develops left-handedness. But it’s more likely a child will be left-handed if one parent is a lefty\, too. Parents of left-handed children used to force them to use their right hands. In the eyes of right-handers\, the predominant use of the left hand seemed evil. Parents feared their communities would shun their children. While we accept left-handedness more readily than days gone by\, its occurrence hasn’t increased. \nFamous Cartoonist Joe Wos\, founder of mazetoons\, states that his favorite day to celebrate is International Left Handers Day\, being a lefty himself. \nCelebrating International Left Handers Day this August\nFamous Lefties\nMany lefties seek to blend in because they will stand out soon enough. Their unique quality makes them feel awkward. They bump elbows or seem like a klutz. However\, in a world designed for the right-handed\, those who are other dominant adapt quite well. For example\, eight United States presidents were left-handed\, including Ronald Reagan\, George H.W. Bush\, Bill Clinton\, and Barack Obama. Would the Sistine Chapel and the Mona Lisa stand the test of time if Michaelangelo and Leonardo de Vinci had been right-handed? \nUncommon Individual\nLeft Handers Day recognizes the uncommon individual who throws\, catches\, writes\, and uses a fork with their left hand. They view the world just a little differently\, too. At a restaurant\, they seek out the seat that will place their dominant elbow on the outside of the booth. Right-handed athletes groan a bit when the southpaw shows up as an opponent on the roster. They present a challenge right-handers aren’t always sure how to handle due to lack of practice. And yet\, lefties square off against righties all the time. \n\nDon’t be shy on Left-Handers Day. Show the world how brilliant and unique you are!

SUMMARY:National NonProfit Day
DESCRIPTION:On August 17th\, National Nonprofit Day (NND) recognizes the goals and positive impacts nonprofits have on communities and the world. \n#NationalNonprofitDay\nSomewhere a volunteer reads to school children. At the same time\, a patient receives steady medication. A lawyer provides legal services for low-income individuals. A lost soul’s life is remembered with dignity\, thanks to a nonprofit funeral home. Elsewhere\, a first-time homebuyer moves into his own home. NND reminds us that each of these scenes is possible thanks to the nonprofit sector. It’s the result of the work performed by capable people and organizations. \nJeffrey’s Journey Through COVID-19 \n \nThrough nonprofits\, awareness\, research\, and aid reach the people who need it most. Nonprofits also generate tremendous benefits to their surrounding communities and the broader world. \nFor example\, following the recent U.S. recession in 2012\, the nonprofit sector provided 5.4% of the nation’s entire GDP (gross domestic product)\, or $887.3 billion. Non-profits continuously employing nurses\, web developers\, lawyers\, computer engineers\, and more (sources: John Hopkins and Tactical Philanthropy Advisors reports).

SUMMARY:National Ellis Island Family History Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on April 17th\, National Ellis Island Family History Day encourages families to explore their ancestry and discover family who immigrated through Ellis Island. \n\n\n \n#EllisIslandFamilyHistoryDay\nFrom 1892 to 1924\, Ellis Island served as the busiest inspection station for millions of immigrants to the United States. On this day in 1907\, officials recorded 11\,747 names passing through Ellis Island. It was the busiest day of immigration in the station’s history. During all of 1907\, officials processed over one million immigrants through Ellis Island. \nDuring its operation\, approximately 12 million immigrants passed through the halls of Ellis Island. It operated from 1892 to 1954. Before Ellis Island\, immigrants entered the United States in New York City at Castle Garden. Just months before Ellis Island’s opening\, the old depot was demolished and ushered in a new era of immigration. The Statue of Liberty overlooks Ellis Island and was one of the first sights the nearly 2\,000 immigrants a day would see as they disembarked. \nThe new facilities offered an improvement over the Castle Garden. The large\, open\, and airy facility presented an overwhelming obstacle to some\, though. Thousands of people from many cultures and speaking different languages gathered in one place. After such a long journey\, the arrival at Ellis Island must have been stressful and confusing. What an overwhelming and exciting experience for them all! For some\, they entered Ellis Island as a step toward their future. Officials turned others away for a variety of reasons. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE ELLIS ISLAND FAMILY HISTORY DAY\nDo you have a family member who immigrated through Ellis Island? SUMMARY:National Animal Crackers Day
DESCRIPTION:National Animal Crackers Day on April 18th each year celebrates a childhood favorite. A box of these sweet animal-shaped crackers not only provided a delicious snack\, but they also offered a little entertainment\, too! \n\n\n \n#NationalAnimalCrackersDay\nThe celebration brings us back to our childhood memories and the many boxes of Animal Crackers we shared with our friends. Animal Crackers refer to a type of small cookie baked in the shape of circus or zoo animals\, such as a lion\, tiger\, bear or elephant. The most common variety is light-colored and slightly sweet. However\, makers also offer chocolate and frosted varieties\, too. Even though animal crackers are made with layered dough\, much like crackers\, they are sweet like cookies. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL ANIMAL CRACKER DAY\nIt’s a perfect day to celebrate that childhood memory again. Pick up some animal crackers at your local grocery store and share them with family and friends. \n\nMake your favorite dessert using animal crackers.\nThey’re great for dipping or adding to a fruit tray\, too. SUMMARY:Volunteer Recognition Day
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Recognition Day is the annual celebration of those who selflessly benefit the lives of others. By providing a helping hand to those in need\, humans and animals alike\, we are all naturally working towards making the world a better place. \n\n\n \n#VolunteerRecognitionDay\nEvery single one of us has been benefited from the work of a volunteer and Volunteer Recognition Day acknowledges the beauty of this phenomenon. Every direction we turn\, we can do something outside of our daily list of requirements.  As you go about your day\, honor and thank those who go to the extra mile. \nHigh profile celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Bono have made a name beyond the stage for their work with various foundations. Although most of us are not millionaires\, their work goes to show that anyone can get their hands dirty\, step out of their comfort zone and lend a hand to those in need. \n\n\n\nA lot of times volunteering comes down finding a cause that moves you. For some people\, taking care of animals influences them\, whereas the human condition calls to others requiring they meet the needs of a few or many in their community or far and wide. With so many opportunities to offer love and support to those who won’t take it for granted\, it’s hard not to want to get involved! \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION DAY\nTake a moment to thank a volunteer in your life. \nEvaluate your current schedule and see where you can fit in time for volunteering. Pick a cause you’re passionate about! Whether it’s donating your money or often even more importantly\, your time\, there’s always something to be done. Don’t forget\, your skills are valuable to organizations\, too. Many volunteer organizations provide services to people who would otherwise go without if it weren’t for volunteers. So think of your specific skill set and consider who it might benefit if times are tough. \nHere are a few ideas to get you started: \n\ntax services to those who’ve fallen on hard times\nwig styling for someone undergoing chemo\ndental services for those who cannot afford dental insurance\nyard care for elderly or disabled\nsew quilts\, weighted blankets\, post-mastectomy drain bulb covers\, and many other projects to support those in need\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Bucket List Day
DESCRIPTION:April 24 celebrates National Bucket List Day to remind us it’s never too late to set new goals\, go on a dream vacation\, and inspire people around you to enjoy life to the fullest. \n\n\n \n#NATIONALBUCKETLISTDAY\nBy definition\, a bucket list is a list of things a person would like to do\, but has never experienced before. Some people refer to them as milestones\, while other people refer to them as goals. Whatever you call them\, a bucket list is a list of things a person would like to accomplish before they die. \nWhat Is A Bucket List?\nA bucket list is the list you create to make the most out of life. It is a list of goals\, dreams\, and aspirations you would like to accomplish before you pass away. The basic meaning of a bucket list is to keep track of your goals by making yourself accountable to achieve all you want in life. The purpose of a bucket list is to encourage ourselves to accomplish goals within in a specific timeframe. \nOur time on earth is short. Very few of us pause to think about how we spend what time we have. Creating a bucket list can help you live your life to the fullest. It also gives you the opportunity to appreciate the life you have and reflect on the good things to come. \n\n\n \nBucket List Ideas\nA bucket list can be anything you want it to be. Your bucket list should reflect your interests. In fact\, we’re guessing there are no two lists alike. If you are a simple person\, create a bucket list that reflects the simple pleasures in life. If you gravitate towards extravagant things or love to travel\, your list will more than likely consist of ideas that require more of a financial investment. \nSimple Bucket List Ideas\n\nGraduating from high school or college.\nHaving children.\nBuying a home.\nBecoming a freelance photographer.\nParticipating in a painting club.\n\nExtravagant Bucket List Ideas\n\nGo on a cruise.\nVisit the Rainforest.\nVisit all the continents in the world.\nVisit historical landmarks across the country.\nRide a hot air balloon.\n\nTravel Bucket List\n\nTravel to Europe.\nSee the ancient Mayan ruins.\nVisit Egyptian tombs.\nTravel Route 66.\nVisit all the state parks in North America.\n\nFinding Gratitude\nLiving a life of gratitude is key to living a well-rounded life\, full of happiness and satisfaction. Gratitude allows you to find every day moments and turn them into long-term fulfillment. Completing items on your bucket list will help you realize the opportunity you have been given as you experience life-changing moments you thought might never happen. Enjoy the ride and show gratitude for the adventure you have in this life. \nENDLESS POSSIBILITIES\n\nBe brave and have some fun by learning to paint\, drive a race car\, skydive\, surf\, or jump off a cliff.\nSample local food and drink during your travels.\nCreate a bucket list with a friend that you both can enjoy.\nWatch the movie Bucket List\, staring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.\nPay it forward with a bucket list that allows you to donate time to an orphanage\, local soup kitchen\, or food pantry.\nShare your videos and photos on social media from your bucket list adventures using #NationalBucketListDay.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:First Ladies Day
DESCRIPTION:National First Ladies Day on the last Saturday in April honors all First Ladies of the United States and commemorates the founding of the First Lady upon President George Washington’s inauguration on April 30\, 1789. Martha Washington became First Lady of the United States that day. She and all those who followed in her footsteps have played in molding our nation. \n\n\n \n#FirstLadiesDay\nSince 1789\, a first lady has accompanied every president. Starting with Martha Washington\, who was born on June 2\, 1731\, first ladies have helped set a tone in the highest office of the land. Even the country’s only bachelor president\, James Buchannan\, required someone to act as hostess. Harriet Lane\, the president’s niece\, stepped into the role of the first lady. She presented a well-ordered White House with tact and grace. Lane isn’t the only relative to serve in the role of the first lady. Several other presidents held office as widowers requiring someone to step into the role as a de facto first lady\, too. \nWhile they aren’t elected\, many of them campaign alongside their spouse. Others have served as elected or appointed officials in many different capacities. First ladies have been teachers\, Girl Scouts\, educated\, and adventurous. \nMore First Lady Facts\nAnother first lady with a unique history is Abigail Adams. The first to live in the White House when John Adams was elected the 2nd President of the United States\, Adams was also the mother of another president – John Quincy Adams. First Lady Barbara Bush repeated that circumstance 176 years later when her son George W. Bush was elected. \nOnly two first ladies were born outside the United States – Melania Trump was the most recent. Do you know who the first was? \n\n\n \nTradition and Firsts\nWhile nearly every first lady since Martha Washington has been dedicated to a charitable cause\, Lady Bird Johnson made it a formal platform. Since then\, the country has come to expect the next first lady to continue the tradition. \nAbigail Fillmore was the first teacher to ascend to the role of the first lady. The most recent was Laura Bush. \nWhile there are many firsts in the world of first ladies\, two recent ones include the first African American and the first to earn a doctorate degree – Michele Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. \nFirst Lady Tragedy\nEight first ladies have become widows while living in the White House. The first was Anna Harrison. Notably\, she was also the grandmother of Benjamin Harrison\, the 23rd President. Of these eight\, four were the wives of presidents who were assassinated. Mary Lincoln\, Lucretia Garfield\, Ida McKinley\, and Jacqueline Kennedy fall into this tragic list. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL FIRST LADIES DAY\n\nOn National First Ladies Day\, learn more about the women who’ve set tradition\, supported the president\, and become role models for many.\nRead memoirs\, tour museums\, and watch documentaries about the first ladies.\nHave you met a first lady or two? Share your experiences or how you think the first lady role will change over time.\nUse #FirstLadiesDay to share on social media.\nAre you looking for more facts? DESCRIPTION:Each year on the last Saturday in April\, National Pool Opening Day encourages pool owners across the country to prepare their swimming pools for a summer of fun\, fitness\, and enjoyment. \n\n\n \n#PoolOpeningDay\nSwimming pools offer many benefits including physical exercise\, social interaction and psychological benefits. Exercising in a swimming pool allows us to do many things that are difficult on land. The water makes us buoyant\, so we don’t put as much strain on our joints. It also creates resistance\, so every move becomes more of a workout. Another benefit is the cooling effect of water. It helps prevent overheating while exercising. Socializing at the swimming pool can be relaxing and fun. It can help relieve stress while enjoying friends and family. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE POOL OPENING DAY\nTest and balance your water to ensure it is healthy and safe. Check your pool equipment for proper operation. Get out your favorite pool accessories so you can fully enjoy your pool. Post photos of you and your family enjoying your pool on social media using #PoolOpeningDay. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Sense of Smell Day
DESCRIPTION:Held on the last Saturday in April\, National Sense of Smell Day celebrates one of the five senses. Our sense of smell is more than a way to know when dinner is ready. It also plays a role as an early warning system\, triggers memories\, and interacts with our other senses. \n\n\n \n#SenseOfSmellDay\nDid you know\, scent cells renew every 30-60 days and are the only sense nerve cells that can regenerate. Those scent cells allow us to recognize smells from childhood\, triggering memories of Play-doh\, grandma’s cookies or pipe smoke. It’s also the only sense directly connected to the brain where all those memories are stored. \nTake a woman when house shopping. She’s more likely to smell unwelcome odors such as smoke\, pet urine\, or mold before a man. Women naturally have a better sense of smell. \nWhile the loss of smell occurs naturally with age\, it can also be a sign of illness\, especially a neurological disorder such as Parkinson’s disease or an early stage of Alzheimer’s disease. \nA human’s odor is like a fingerprint. Even when we wear deodorant or fragrances\, our scent combines with those for a unique combination. Babies recognize the smell of their mothers. Spouses know the scent of their partners\, too. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE SENSE OF SMELL DAY\nMuseums\, children’s museums\, and science centers across the country participate in celebrating this holiday by offering hands-on activities and informational displays about the sense of smell. \nFor fun\, do a smell test at home. Collect items such as the ones listed below. Place a small amount of each item in individual containers. Cover them with a cloth and then take turns blindfolding family members to see if they can pass the smell test. \n\nlemon peel\nvanilla extract\ncoffee grounds\ntoothpaste\nchocolate\noil\nsawdust\nflower petals\nsomeone’s soap\n\nUse #SenseOfSmellDay to post on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Stop Food Waste Day
DESCRIPTION:Food waste worldwide is an alarming issue. That is why on the last Wednesday in April\, Stop Food Waste Day raises awareness of the growing concern of food waste. \n\n\n \n#StopFoodWasteDay\nAccording to the USDA\, Americans waste between 30-40 percent of the food supply. That is near or more than the worldwide estimate of 1/3 of the world’s consumable waste. Additionally\, food waste occurs for many reasons all along the food chain. \n\nLack of workers to harvest\nQuality expectations\nWeather\nOverproduction\nFaulty equipment\nPoor planning\nOverbuying\nOver preparing\n\nThese are only a few reasons that add up to millions of tons of food waste. Stop Food Waste Day addresses all the factors and brings increased awareness to the world. The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that nearly half of food waste happens before it even reaches the consumer. So\, everyone along the food chain has a responsibility to help reduce it. That means\, from farm to table and everywhere in between\, we have work to do. Some of the solutions include: \n\nImproved weather forecasts\, so farmers know what to grow and when.\nImproved storage facilities so that distributers and markets can preserve food longer.\nReduced production where possible.\nAn improved understanding of food quality and a loosening of those standards.\nPreparing smaller meals.\nTeaching consumers how to use leftovers in soups\, casseroles\, and stir-fries.\nLearning how to preserve meals at home.\nBegin composting the incidental waste to improve home production and commercial production.\n\nFood waste is everyone’s problem\, whether we realize it or not. Join the movement to reduce food waste. Follow these tips for reducing food waste: \nAt home:\n\nPurchase and prepare only the amount of food you need to feed your family.\nDiscover new recipes that allow you to makeover leftovers.\nLearn how to preserve food.\nIf you buy in bulk\, consider donating excess to local shelters.\nUnderstand the use by and best by dates.\n\nIn your community or business:\n\nSpeak to your local grocers about changing their damaged fruit and vegetable policies. Those pristine-looking bins full of blemish-free fruits and vegetables shouldn’t be the standard anymore.\nShop farmer’s markets\, local food stands\, and food co-ops.\nCreate or participate in a donation program.\nPromote neighborhood composting.\nEducate your employees about best food practices.\nDevelop a partnership with area farmers and feed the animals.\n\n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE STOP FOOD WASTE DAY\n\nShare your tips and tricks to avoid food waste.\nTry a new recipe that repurposes leftovers.\nGive a shout-out to restaurants and businesses that use smart food practices.\nLearn more about food waste\, the causes\, and how to prevent it.\nWatch documentaries about food waste such as:\n\nJust Eat It\, directed by Grant Baldwin\nWasted! The Story of Food Waste\, directed by Nari Kye and Anna Chai\nExpired! Food Waste in America\, directed by Rebecca Richman Cohen\n\n\nRead about food waste in books like:\n\nThe Waste Not\, Want Not Cookbook by Cinda Chavich\nIn Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto by Michael Pollan\n\n\nJoin the conversation and use #StopFoodWasteDay on social media.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Peace Rose Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on April 29th\, National Peace Rose Day honors a well-known and fruitful garden rose. \n\n\n \n#NationalPeaceRoseDay\nThe light yellow to large cream-colored flowers of the Peace rose have slightly flushed crimson pink petal edges. It is a hybrid tea rose that is hardy\, vigorous\, and highly resistant to disease. \nFrench horticulturist Francis Meilland developed the Peace rose between 1935 and 1939. When Meilland foresaw the German invasion of France to protect the new rose\, he sent cutting to his friends in Italy\, Turkey\, Germany\, and the United States. It is believed these cuttings were sent to the United States on the last plane available before the German invasion. \nEach country that received a cutting gave the rose a different name. It was called “Madame A. Meilland” in honor of the breeder’s mother in France. Italy named the rose Gioia\, meaning Joy. In Germany\, the name of the rose was Gloria Dei\, for glory to God. The United States named the rose “Peace\,” and the national flower of the United States is the rose. \nAs the Second World War came to a close in Europe\, the trade name “Peace” was publicly announced on April 29\, 1945\, by the Conrad Pyle Co. in the United States. \nLater in 1945\, Peace roses were given to each delegate at the inaugural meeting of the United Nations\, in San Francisco\, with a note that read: “We hope the Peace rose will influence men’s thoughts for everlasting world peace.” \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PEACE ROSE DAY\n\nDiscover the beauty of the Peace Rose.\nPlant a Peace Rose shrub.\nShare clippings with others.\nShare the story of the Peace Rose.\nUse #NationalPeaceRoseDay to post on social media.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Paranormal Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on May 3rd National Paranormal Day people who believe in paranormal activities are encouraged to get together and share their experiences with each other. \n\n\n \n#NationalParanormalDay\nParanormal is a term used to describe occurrences that can’t be explained by ordinary scientific measures. They are outside the norm. Many words leap to mind when speaking of the paranormal. Ghosts\, hauntings\, spirit\, or poltergeist name a few. However\, an extraterrestrial and clairvoyance also fall into the category\, too. Have you ever felt a sense of Deja vu? Some believe the feeling is related to the paranormal. Are strange orbs in the night an apparition or simply a moth catching the light? \nNearly every city in the country has a house or location that holds a mystical presence. Whether the history associated with the location or personal experiences\, certain places radiate the paranormal. Others need a time of day or year for their mystery to unfold. Even still\, it might depend on who spins the tale. A good storyteller can make just about anyone’s spine tingle. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PARANORMAL DAY\nExplore the paranormal – if you dare. What’s your favorite ghost story? Discover paranormal hotbeds in your area. Even those who don’t believe in the paranormal can participate in the day. There are a wide variety of movies\, documentaries\, science-fiction books\, and television shows specializing in this genre. \nShare your experiences using #NationalParanormalDay to post on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Specially-abled Pets Day
DESCRIPTION:Annually on May 3rd\, National Specially-abled Pets Day shines a spotlight on the needs of pets with disabilities. \n#SpeciallyAbledPetsDay\nThis day is set aside to educate the public about caring for disabled pets. The day features disabled animals looking for a home. It also encourages animal lovers to consider choosing a disabled pet when they are looking at adopting a new pet family member. Before you adopt a pet with special needs\, consider the time\, energy\, and financial needs\, too. \n\nDo you need special training? Depending on your pet’s needs you may need to learn some new skills. If your pet requires injections or certain types of therapy\, you will be the one to provide the services.\nIf your pet is deaf or blind\, you will need to be aware of their needs and safety concerns.\nIs your home adapted to their needs? Amputees and blind animals will need accommodations.\nSpecially-abled pets require more veterinary care. The costs can add up\, so consider your finances before you adopt\, not after.\n\nWhile pets with disabilities require additional care and accommodations\, they still bring much love and joy to a home. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SPECIALLY-ABLED PETS DAY\nConsider adopting a specially-abled pet. Learn about fostering specially-abled pets\, too. While bringing home a pet is always exciting\, it can also be stressful. Visit with someone who is the pet parent of a specially-abled pet to learn more. They will provide insight and helpful tips. You will also gain a partner and hopefully a play buddy for your new companion. If you already love one\, share your experiences and post pictures of your beautiful furbabies using #SpeciallyAbledPetsDay on social media. \nSource Link
