DESCRIPTION:On May 25th each year\, wine lovers everywhere pour a glass of their favorite wine to celebrate National Wine Day.  Whether it is Red or White\, the sound of glassing “clinking” will be heard around the world today. \n#NationalWineDay\nMade from fermented grapes or other fruits\, wine is an alcoholic beverage. During the fermentation processes\, yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes converting it into alcohol.  Different grapes produce different wines.  Winemakers will combine different wines to create more complex flavors.  Wines made from fruit or honey are often named according to the variety of fruit used. \nRed wine varietals produce deep ruby reds as well as subtle ambers and browns. Their beautiful colors hint at the coming change in the season. With that\, we can look for delicious menu changes\, too. Besides\, what better way to enjoy a great bottle of wine than by pairing it with excellent company and food. \nWinemakers produce white wines from grapes with light yellow-green skins or light red skins. However\, it’s not the color of the grapes that give the wine its color. It’s the tannins in the grape skins that color wine red and also the flavor. White wines are generally sweeter than red wines and are best served chilled. Most red wines are served at room temperature. DESCRIPTION:National Irish Coffee Day kicks off January 25th each year with a mug of strong coffee\, Irish whiskey\, sugar\, and topped with a layer of cream. \n\n\n \n#NationalIrishCoffeeDay\nOn a cold\, wet day in 1942 weary travelers to the small Shannon Airport in southwest Ireland found their way to a restaurant and chef Joe Sheridan. To warm his guests\, he served them hot coffee\, spiked with whiskey and topped with whipped cream. The passengers asked if the beverage was Brazilian coffee. Sheridan responded that it was Irish coffee.\nClick play and enjoy a story about National Irish Coffee Appreciation Day featuring our founder\, Marlo Anderson.  If you enjoy the 2 minute show\, subscribe with your favorite podcast player. \nA travel writer\, Stanton Delaplane\, brought Irish coffee to the United States after having it at Shannon Airport. \nDelaplane brought the idea to the Buena Vista Cafe on November 10\, 1952. After much trial and error\, sampling\, and a trip back to Ireland for a taste of the original\, Delaplane\, along with Buena Vista owners Jack Koeppler and George Freeberg\, were able to replicate the delicious coffee and the method for floating the cream on top of the coffee. \nHow to Make an Authentic Irish Coffee\nStarting with a warm glass\, fill 2/3rds full of freshly brewed coffee. Stir in a heaping teaspoon of sugar.  Add 1 ounce of Irish whiskey. \nAdding the cream\, so it floats is the tricky part. According to the Buena Vista account\, and at the suggestion of San Francisco’s mayor\, a dairyman\, cream that is 48 hours old\, is best. In the early 1800s\, Casparus van Houten Sr. developed a process to separate the cocoa solids from the butter. His son\, Coenraad Johannes made those fats more soluble in water. Together their processes made cocoa powder possible. \nBut before then\, everyone drank hot chocolate. This thicker\, creamier beverage often offered medicinal benefits for stomach ailments during the 19th century. In fact\, long before the beverage’s popularity in Victorian times\, it served in ceremonial culture. \nHowever\, humans have been drinking chocolate for a long time. The Mayans likely created the first chocolate beverage 2000 years ago. The Aztecs also included a cocoa beverage as an essential part of their culture by 1400 AD. When Europeans began exploring Central and South America\, explorers brought chocolate and the beverage back with them to Europe from Mexico. \n\n\n \nMake it and Benefit\nHot chocolate can be enjoyed in a variety of combinations\, topped with whipped cream or marshmallows. They give credit to Antonio Latini. He was born in 1642 and created a milk-based sorbet. \nIn the United States\, the Quaker colonists earn the nod for bringing their ice recipes over with them. To warm his guests\, he served them hot coffee\, spiked with whiskey and topped with whipped cream. The passengers asked if the beverage was Brazilian coffee. After much trial and error\, sampling\, and a trip back to Ireland for a taste of the original\, Delaplane\, along with Buena Vista owners Jack Koeppler and George Freeberg\, were able to replicate the delicious coffee and the method for floating the cream on top of the coffee. \nHow to Make an Authentic Irish Coffee\nStarting with a warm glass\, fill 2/3rds full of freshly brewed coffee. Stir in a heaping teaspoon of sugar.  Add 1 ounce of Irish whiskey. \nAdding the cream\, so it floats is the tricky part. According to the Buena Vista account\, and at the suggestion of San Francisco’s mayor\, a dairyman\, cream that is 48 hours old\, is best. In America\, we often use the terms hot chocolate and hot cocoa interchangeably. We’re able to do this thanks to a process developed by father and son chemists. For the thicker\, more flavorful beverage\, we make hot chocolate from ground chocolate containing cocoa butter. It is also called drinking chocolate. Hot chocolate has also been around longer than hot cocoa. In the early 1800s\, Casparus van Houten Sr. developed a process to separate the cocoa solids from the butter. His son\, Coenraad Johannes made those fats more soluble in water. Together their processes made cocoa powder possible. \nBut before then\, everyone drank hot chocolate. This thicker\, creamier beverage often offered medicinal benefits for stomach ailments during the 19th century. In fact\, long before the beverage’s popularity in Victorian times\, it served in ceremonial culture. \nHowever\, humans have been drinking chocolate for a long time. The Mayans likely created the first chocolate beverage 2000 years ago. The Aztecs also included a cocoa beverage as an essential part of their culture by 1400 AD. When Europeans began exploring Central and South America\, explorers brought chocolate and the beverage back with them to Europe from Mexico. \n\n\n \nMake it and Benefit\nHot chocolate can be enjoyed in a variety of combinations\, topped with whipped cream or marshmallows. DESCRIPTION:On May 25th each year\, wine lovers everywhere pour a glass of their favorite wine to celebrate National Wine Day.  Whether it is Red or White\, the sound of glassing “clinking” will be heard around the world today. \n#NationalWineDay\nMade from fermented grapes or other fruits\, wine is an alcoholic beverage. During the fermentation processes\, yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes converting it into alcohol.  Different grapes produce different wines.  Winemakers will combine different wines to create more complex flavors.  Wines made from fruit or honey are often named according to the variety of fruit used. \nRed wine varietals produce deep ruby reds as well as subtle ambers and browns. Their beautiful colors hint at the coming change in the season. With that\, we can look for delicious menu changes\, too. Besides\, what better way to enjoy a great bottle of wine than by pairing it with excellent company and food. \nWinemakers produce white wines from grapes with light yellow-green skins or light red skins. However\, it’s not the color of the grapes that give the wine its color. It’s the tannins in the grape skins that color wine red and also the flavor. White wines are generally sweeter than red wines and are best served chilled. Most red wines are served at room temperature. During the fermentation processes\, yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes converting it into alcohol.  Different grapes produce different wines.  Winemakers will combine different wines to create more complex flavors.  Wines made from fruit or honey are often named according to the variety of fruit used. \nRed wine varietals produce deep ruby reds as well as subtle ambers and browns. Their beautiful colors hint at the coming change in the season. With that\, we can look for delicious menu changes\, too. Besides\, what better way to enjoy a great bottle of wine than by pairing it with excellent company and food. \nWinemakers produce white wines from grapes with light yellow-green skins or light red skins. However\, it’s not the color of the grapes that give the wine its color. It’s the tannins in the grape skins that color wine red and also the flavor. White wines are generally sweeter than red wines and are best served chilled. Most red wines are served at room temperature. DESCRIPTION:On May 25th each year\, wine lovers everywhere pour a glass of their favorite wine to celebrate National Wine Day.  Whether it is Red or White\, the sound of glassing “clinking” will be heard around the world today. \n#NationalWineDay\nMade from fermented grapes or other fruits\, wine is an alcoholic beverage. During the fermentation processes\, yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes converting it into alcohol.  Different grapes produce different wines.  Winemakers will combine different wines to create more complex flavors.  Wines made from fruit or honey are often named according to the variety of fruit used. \nRed wine varietals produce deep ruby reds as well as subtle ambers and browns. Their beautiful colors hint at the coming change in the season. With that\, we can look for delicious menu changes\, too. Besides\, what better way to enjoy a great bottle of wine than by pairing it with excellent company and food. \nWinemakers produce white wines from grapes with light yellow-green skins or light red skins. However\, it’s not the color of the grapes that give the wine its color. It’s the tannins in the grape skins that color wine red and also the flavor. White wines are generally sweeter than red wines and are best served chilled. Most red wines are served at room temperature. However\, a sweet red should also be chilled for the best flavor. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL WINE DAY\nReminisce with family and friends over a glass of wine.  Enjoy wine with a favorite meal.  And just a little tip\, in a couple of days we celebrate National Coq Au Vin Day which includes red wine as an ingredient.
