The first half concludes with the optimistic spirit of Mendelssohn’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage\, a musical wish for success in this new chapter. \nThey then return to the Maestro’s Nordic heritage with Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4\, “The Inextinguishable.” Written during the First World War\, this triumphant work is a celebration of the elemental will to live.
