SUMMARY:National High Five Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on the third Thursday in April\, we observe National High Five Day. This is a fun day where you can “High Five” everyone that you see. \n\n\n \n#NationalHighFiveDay\nFolklore fills the hallowed halls of sports stadiums concerning the origins of the high five. From the basketball to the volleyball court and baseball stadium\, the sports metaphor has been well worn on this topic. \nThe two most well-known claims take place in less than a two-year time span. \nDuring the last 1977 regular season Dodgers’ game\, Dusty Baker hit the home run that made the team the first in history to have four players with at least 30 regular-season home runs each.  As Baker rounded third and headed home\, Glenn Burke waited at home plate to congratulate him. In a moment that is Dodgers history but was never televised\, Burke greeted his teammate by raising his hand\, and they slapped hands in a victorious high five. \nDuring basketball’s 1978-79 season\, the University of Louisville basketball team switched up their regular low-fives on the home court thanks to Wiley Brown and Derek Smith. \nOut of all the triumphant sports gestures\, such as the fist bump\, fanny slap\, fist pump\, end zone dance\, and chest bump\, the high five stands in a class all its own. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL HIGH FIVE DAY\n\nCelebrate with a high five!\nSee if you can find all the fives in the High Five hidden picture.\nOnce you’ve tried\, check out the key.\nIf you’re looking for ways to get children involved in sports\, check out local organizations for a list of sports activities in your town. That’s a High Five in our books!\nUse #NationalHighFiveDay to post on social media.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:Volunteer Recognition Day
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Recognition Day is the annual celebration of those who selflessly benefit the lives of others. By providing a helping hand to those in need\, humans and animals alike\, we are all naturally working towards making the world a better place. \n\n\n \n#VolunteerRecognitionDay\nEvery single one of us has been benefited from the work of a volunteer and Volunteer Recognition Day acknowledges the beauty of this phenomenon. Every direction we turn\, we can do something outside of our daily list of requirements.  As you go about your day\, honor and thank those who go to the extra mile. \nHigh profile celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Bono have made a name beyond the stage for their work with various foundations. Although most of us are not millionaires\, their work goes to show that anyone can get their hands dirty\, step out of their comfort zone and lend a hand to those in need. \n\n\n\nA lot of times volunteering comes down finding a cause that moves you. For some people\, taking care of animals influences them\, whereas the human condition calls to others requiring they meet the needs of a few or many in their community or far and wide. With so many opportunities to offer love and support to those who won’t take it for granted\, it’s hard not to want to get involved! \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION DAY\nTake a moment to thank a volunteer in your life. \nEvaluate your current schedule and see where you can fit in time for volunteering. Pick a cause you’re passionate about! Whether it’s donating your money or often even more importantly\, your time\, there’s always something to be done. Don’t forget\, your skills are valuable to organizations\, too. Many volunteer organizations provide services to people who would otherwise go without if it weren’t for volunteers. So think of your specific skill set and consider who it might benefit if times are tough. \nHere are a few ideas to get you started: \n\ntax services to those who’ve fallen on hard times\nwig styling for someone undergoing chemo\ndental services for those who cannot afford dental insurance\nyard care for elderly or disabled\nsew quilts\, weighted blankets\, post-mastectomy drain bulb covers\, and many other projects to support those in need\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Bucket List Day
DESCRIPTION:April 24 celebrates National Bucket List Day to remind us it’s never too late to set new goals\, go on a dream vacation\, and inspire people around you to enjoy life to the fullest. \n\n\n \n#NATIONALBUCKETLISTDAY\nBy definition\, a bucket list is a list of things a person would like to do\, but has never experienced before. Some people refer to them as milestones\, while other people refer to them as goals. Whatever you call them\, a bucket list is a list of things a person would like to accomplish before they die. \nWhat Is A Bucket List?\nA bucket list is the list you create to make the most out of life. It is a list of goals\, dreams\, and aspirations you would like to accomplish before you pass away. The basic meaning of a bucket list is to keep track of your goals by making yourself accountable to achieve all you want in life. The purpose of a bucket list is to encourage ourselves to accomplish goals within in a specific timeframe. \nOur time on earth is short. Very few of us pause to think about how we spend what time we have. Creating a bucket list can help you live your life to the fullest. It also gives you the opportunity to appreciate the life you have and reflect on the good things to come. \n\n\n \nBucket List Ideas\nA bucket list can be anything you want it to be. Your bucket list should reflect your interests. In fact\, we’re guessing there are no two lists alike. If you are a simple person\, create a bucket list that reflects the simple pleasures in life. If you gravitate towards extravagant things or love to travel\, your list will more than likely consist of ideas that require more of a financial investment. \nSimple Bucket List Ideas\n\nGraduating from high school or college.\nHaving children.\nBuying a home.\nBecoming a freelance photographer.\nParticipating in a painting club.\n\nExtravagant Bucket List Ideas\n\nGo on a cruise.\nVisit the Rainforest.\nVisit all the continents in the world.\nVisit historical landmarks across the country.\nRide a hot air balloon.\n\nTravel Bucket List\n\nTravel to Europe.\nSee the ancient Mayan ruins.\nVisit Egyptian tombs.\nTravel Route 66.\nVisit all the state parks in North America.\n\nFinding Gratitude\nLiving a life of gratitude is key to living a well-rounded life\, full of happiness and satisfaction. Gratitude allows you to find every day moments and turn them into long-term fulfillment. Completing items on your bucket list will help you realize the opportunity you have been given as you experience life-changing moments you thought might never happen. Enjoy the ride and show gratitude for the adventure you have in this life. \nENDLESS POSSIBILITIES\n\nBe brave and have some fun by learning to paint\, drive a race car\, skydive\, surf\, or jump off a cliff.\nSample local food and drink during your travels.\nCreate a bucket list with a friend that you both can enjoy.\nWatch the movie Bucket List\, staring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.\nPay it forward with a bucket list that allows you to donate time to an orphanage\, local soup kitchen\, or food pantry.\nShare your videos and photos on social media from your bucket list adventures using #NationalBucketListDay.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:Bike to Work Day
DESCRIPTION:National Bike to Work Day takes place on the third Friday in May\, right in the middle of National Bike Month. The observance encourages us to bike to work\, but it also raises awareness of cyclists as they commute to and from work each day. \n\n\n \n#BikeToWorkDay\nAs more and more people take to bicycles for transportation to and from work\, it’s important for both cyclists and drivers to share the road safely. Both must be aware of the traffic laws and follow them. More and more communities are adding bike lanes to improve safety. In the United States\, from the year 2000 to 2011\, the number of bicycle commuters grew by more than 47 percent. National Bike to Work Day promotes the bicycle as a healthy and safe alternative for commuting to work. \nSome of the benefits of commuting to work by bicycle include: \n\nPhysical fitness – Cyclists get an aerobic workout before and after work. It’s also low impact exercise that is easy on the joints\, unlike jogging.\nFuel savings – They save fuel costs\, which puts more money back in their pockets.\nSmaller carbon footprint – By cycling\, they reduce carbon emissions resulting in cleaner air.\nAutomobile longevity – Get more life out of their motor vehicle by using it for more necessary trips.\n\nSafety First\nBiking is an enjoyable activity. But\, like all outdoor activities\, it’s important to remember safety is the key to enjoying your biking experience. \n\nAlways wear a helmet.\nWear reflective clothing.\nLimit distractions.\nRide with the flow of traffic\, not into traffic.\nLearn hand signals and use them.\n\n\n\n \nPARTICPATION IS CELEBRATION\n\nAttend a community biking event.\nShare biking tips with a child.\nTake a bike safety course.\nBike to work every day during the summer.\nCreate a biking club.\nLearn the history of bikes.\nShare your biking journal on social media using #BikeToWorkDay.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:International Plastic Free Day
DESCRIPTION:International Plastic Free Day is a call to action and brings attention to the plastic we use every day. On May 25th\, commit to using no single-use plastic for one day (including bottles\, take-out food containers\, utensils\, bags and wrappers.) \n#InternationalPlasticFreeDay\nOver 380 million tons of plastic is produced every year. Half of all plastic produced is single-use – meaning it’s thrown away after just one use. Since only 9% of all plastic gets recycled\, most of it ends up littering our communities\, filling our landfills\, and polluting our oceans. \nInternational Plastic Free Day creates awareness of just how much plastic we use every day\, and how we can use less of it. Consider all the ways single-use plastic is used in our daily lives: \n\nBeverage bottles\nCleaning products in plastic jugs\nTo-go containers\nFood packaging\nCups\, straws\, lids\nStorage bags\nProduct packaging\n\nParticipation is simple: Say “No” to single-use plastics for one day. Don’t buy it\, refuse it\, don’t use it. The day also encourages learning how to swap sustainable products for single-use plastics. For example\, swap: \n\nSingle-use straws with reusable bamboo straws.\nReusable tumbler for drinking both hot and cold beverages.\nReusable cloth bags for shopping.\nSilicone bags for sandwiches and snacks.\nCompostable garbage bags.\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL PLASTICS FREE DAY\nBefore May 25th\, take the plastic-free challenge and commit to using no single-use plastics all day long. Every time you do\, one less piece of plastic will be added to the environment. During International Plastic Free Day you can also: \n\nStart a conversation about single-use plastic and its impact on the Earth.\nLearn how plastic waste impacts our environment.\nDiscover one permanent change you can make to create less plastic waste.\nVisit Free the Ocean for more ways to reduce plastic waste.\n\nWhen you participate\, be sure to use #InternationalPlasticFeeDay and share on social media to help raise awareness. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Memorial Day
DESCRIPTION:MEMORIAL DAY\nEach year in the United States\, Americans observe the Federal holiday\, Memorial Day\, the last Monday in May. It honors and remembers all men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day is also a day to remember all loved ones who have passed away. \n#MemorialDay\nTraditionally on Memorial Day\, the flag of the United States of America is raised briskly to the top of the staff then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position where it remains until noon. At noon\, it is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. \nWhen the flag is at half-staff\, the position is in remembrance of the more than one million men and women who gave their lives for their country. Raising the flag at noon signifies the nation lives\, that the country is resolved not to let their sacrifice be in vain but to rise up in their honor and continue to fight for liberty and justice for all. \nIn the United States\, Memorial Day also traditionally marks the beginning of summer. \nHOW TO OBSERVE Memorial Day\nAttend Memorial Day services in your community. In your own way\, pay tribute in remembrance of service members who have died while serving. Visit a veterans’ cemetery to honor those who’ve impacted your life. Use #MemorialDay to post on social media.

SUMMARY:National Smile Day
DESCRIPTION:On May 31st\, National Smile Day encourages everyone to wear their best smile! \n#NationalSmileDay\nThe first recorded smile on record took place on 126 B.C. Okay\, we made that up. But did you smile? Joking aside\, we generate a smile when funny things happen or find pleasure in the things we do. Someone we love or enjoy spending time with may be the cause of a grin or beaming look of joy. \nSmiles are powerful! They not only create engagement between two people but the more a person smiles\, the healthier their brain can be. Smiling has a direct link to our brain and can help to reduce stress. \nThere is so much a smile can do. Just one smile can brighten someone’s day. It can also improve your day. Smiles are infectious. A healthy smile can develop confidence and generate a new outlook on the world. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL SMILE DAY\nShare your smile and how a smile improves your day.  Use #NationalSmileDay to share on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Say Something Nice Day
DESCRIPTION:On National Say Something Nice Day we have an opportunity to make June 1st extra pleasant for everyone. \n#SaySomethingNiceDay\nThe purpose of this holiday is to counteract bullying and the lack of civility and common courtesy that is growing among people in today’s world. Hopefully\, the practice of saying something nice today will continue into all tomorrows. \nWhen we were young\, many of us often heard\, “If you can’t say something nice\, don’t say anything at all.” One of the many reasons our parents taught us that is because once we say those words\, we can’t take them back\, no matter how true we think they might be. We all know someone whose true nature is kinder than most. Perhaps we even wish we could emulate them more than we do. \n\n\n\nDo they pay compliments or do they follow this old saying? Perhaps a little of both. But there are a few other lessons we can learn from generally nice people. It’s more than saying nice things to others. They genuinely listen to others and tend to put others first. When they pay a compliment\, it isn’t usually practiced. Their sincerity is felt by the receiver. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SAY SOMETHING NICE DAY\nThink about the nicest person you know. Take a cue from them and put one of their better qualities into practice. Say something nice to or about someone. Bring a smile to someone’s face for the sheer joy of seeing them smile. Seek no reward other than knowing that someone’s day is better because a nice word was said. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Pen Pay Day
DESCRIPTION:Observed each year on June 1st\, National Pen Pal Day is a way to let your pen pals know how much they mean to you. The day is the perfect time to send special letters and gifts to your pen pals. \n#NationalPenPalDay\nA pen pal is someone with whom you correspond by writing letters\, sharing personal events and many times have never even met. There are many benefits to having pen pals\, too. \n\nPen pals offer us a broader view of the world.\nWe improve our writing skills.\nWriting letters also give us a break from technology.\nIf your pen pal speaks another language\, your correspondence expands each other’s language.\nHaving a pen pal promotes delayed gratification. Once we write a letter\, we have to wait to hear back from our pen pal.\n\nGenerations of letter writers have enjoyed having pen pals in their life. Some have been famous and others have created life-long friendships that began in childhood. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PEN PAL DAY\nWhile discovering a new pen pal these days might seem daunting but we found two websites that might help you along. Check out Postcrossing and Worldwide Snail Mail Pen Pals on Facebook if you’re looking for a pen pal. Share your memories of having a pen pal or your experiences with one now. SUMMARY:World Caring Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on June 7\, World Caring Day shines a spotlight on all the ways we connect and show each other we care. Afterall\, we should always take time to celebrate the millions of acts of caring we see. All acts of caring\, whether big or small\, are important. Caring is continuous and happens every day through compassion\, support\, kindness and understanding. \n#WorldCaringDay\nIn a world of many worries\, one of the easiest ways to show love is by caring. We all experience times of crisis\, illness or need. Sharing our journeys and becoming a part of a beautiful story in a segmented\, cynical world recognizes and celebrates the people who care. When we take the time to notice\, we see patience\, understanding\, kindness and encouragement from everyone around us. \nUse World Caring Day to remind others to take the opportunity and practice caring. Now more than ever\, we need to lean into caring for one another. Using this day as an opportunity to share your compassion shows genuine love and is a blessing. By sincerely asking how someone’s day went\, it shows that you care\, and can improve that person’s overall well-being. \nCaring Around the World\nCelebrating everyone as they share stories of caring recognizes and honors both those who care\, and those who are cared for. On June 7th\, we encourage everyone to rededicate themselves to recognizing\, sharing and participating in acts of caring by: \n\nAsking how someone is doing with intent and meaning. Asking someone how they are to find out what is going on in their lives shows you care.\nBeing mindful of the needs of others. Being alert and sensitive to what triggers your loved ones can help them navigate the shifts in their mood.\nReconnecting online to catch up with your friends and family living far away or with those you haven’t spoken to in a long time reopens relationships.\nMaking time for your loved ones. We know everyone gets busy but don’t become a stranger to your friends and family.\nWriting a note. You’ll be surprised by how big of an impact little notes of encouragement can have on the mood and well-being of others.\nSharing your story! Head over to www.worldcaringday.org and share your story of caring for a loved one through a challenging health journey. You can also read stories of others to feel inspired.\nJoining the conversation by spreading the word. Sharing acts of kindness will boost the World Caring Day\, especially when you use #WorldCaringDay on social media.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Smile Power Day
DESCRIPTION:On June 15th each year\, National Smile Power Day shares one powerful expression. \n#SmilePowerDay\nFrom the good morning greeting and the first “How may I help you?” present yourself with a smile. No matter where you are employed\, job seeking\, retired\, or looking for new horizons starting the day with a smile is certainly more empowering than a pout or grump. Starting with a smile first is easier than trying to get there later in the day. \nWhen you smile at someone\, you are telling them that they are valued and worth the smile that you just gave them. Smiles are morale boosters and confidence builders. \nResearch has proven that smiling really does increase attractiveness and likability among humans. Smiling creates greater trust and increased interpersonal cooperation. Smiling at someone can help them to relax and relieve their stress while at the same time\, it will make you feel at ease\, too. Even if you do not feel like it\, smiling will lift your mood and can make you a happier person. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SMILE POWER DAY\nChallenge yourself to smile more often today. Use a smile to disarm a tense situation\, or simply smile during your daily tasks. Are you having trouble smiling? \nTips to Help You Smile\n\nThink of a few happy moments that automatically generate a smile for you. You know\, those moments where you belly laughed until your stomach hurts or a time when you were so pleased with yourself your face hurt from smiling. Keep those memories handy and use them to help you smile more often.\nSave a couple of short jokes that are just so silly you can’t help but smile. Tell them to others\, too. The best ones are simple children’s jokes or riddles that play on words.\nLearn Spoonerisms. This fun way of swapping letters in two words in a phrase to make new words make people stop and think. And then they smile and so will you! An example of a Spoonerism is instead of ordering peas and carrots at a restaurant you say\, “I’ll have the keys and parrots.”\nMake a list of the things you’re grateful for. Which ones make you smile? Keep the list handy and refer to it often. Add to it and feel your smiles add up.\n\nUse #SmilePowerDay on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Fathers Day
DESCRIPTION:On the third Sunday in June\, Father’s Day honors the role fathers play in the family structure and society. The day recognizes not just fathers\, but the father figures in our lives. These are the men we look up to who set solid examples for us and guide us throughout our lives. \n#FathersDay\nMany families dedicate the day to their fathers and grandfathers. Whether they are first-time fathers just learning to change a diaper\, or experienced fathers offering sage advice\, the day celebrates everything a father is. Fathers from family to family play a variety of roles. They may be a caregiver\, provider\, or advisor. Some fathers are the strong\, silent types. And yet others tell us stories for days. Fathers teach\, guiding small hands as they hammer a nail or sail a kite. \nWe only look up to our fathers for so long. At some point\, we begin to see things a little differently. But that’s not when we stop looking up to them. It’s at that point\, we turn and look forward together. \nSTN Inspirational Quotes To Keep You Inspired in 2021

SUMMARY:Independence Day (USA)
DESCRIPTION:INDEPENDENCE DAY\nEach year on July 4th\, the United States celebrates Independence Day. This federal holiday commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4\, 1776\, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.  \nFor nearly 250 years\, the country has been celebrating a day in history that inspires us still today. On July 4th\, communities host speeches and ceremonies across the nation. Across the country\, people crowd cities for parades and festivals. Cities deck the streets in red\, white\, and blue bunting and flags. \nFamilies and friends also gather for some of the most mouthwatering food – large picnics and barbecues\, local fairs provide a taste of culture and mom’s home cooking\, too. With so many converging on their hometowns\, family and school reunions take place. \nFire Works\nBefore the day is over\, many communities hold spectacular fireworks displays re-enacting moments of victory. Patriotic music accompanies the performance while spectators view the show from blankets strewn along capital lawns or from boats floating in bays. Whether our National Anthem\, “The Star-Spangled Banner” or “God Bless America\,” many will sing along. In some locations\, music will be played by a live orchestra or band\, while in other areas it’s pre-recorded. Some of the most popular on the playlist are “America the Beautiful\,” “My Country\, Tis of Thee\,” “This Land Is Your Land\,” “Stars and Stripes Forever\,” “God Bless the U.S.A.\,” “Yankee Doodle” and “Dixie.” \nIn some parts of the country\, people will shoot their own fireworks while children delight in the bright colors and sparklers. They roast marshmallows and make s’ mores. \nHOW TO OBSERVE #IndependenceDay #July4th #4thOfJuly #FourthOfJuly\nSpend the day celebrating independence. Attend local events or travel the nation to see friends and relatives. \n\nAt noon\, a “Salute to the Union” is fired\, each July 4th\, by any capable military base. This is a salute of one gun for each state in the United States. \nIn 2009\, New York City hosted the largest fireworks display in the country. \nHeld since 1785\, the Bristol Fourth of July Parade in Bristol\, Rhode Island\, is the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration in the United States. \n\nShare your celebrations using #IndependenceDay\, #July4th\, #4thOfJuly\, FourthOfJuly on social media.
