SUMMARY:National Bucket List Day
DESCRIPTION:April 24 celebrates National Bucket List Day to remind us it’s never too late to set new goals\, go on a dream vacation\, and inspire people around you to enjoy life to the fullest. \n\n\n \n#NATIONALBUCKETLISTDAY\nBy definition\, a bucket list is a list of things a person would like to do\, but has never experienced before. Some people refer to them as milestones\, while other people refer to them as goals. Whatever you call them\, a bucket list is a list of things a person would like to accomplish before they die. \nWhat Is A Bucket List?\nA bucket list is the list you create to make the most out of life. It is a list of goals\, dreams\, and aspirations you would like to accomplish before you pass away. The basic meaning of a bucket list is to keep track of your goals by making yourself accountable to achieve all you want in life. The purpose of a bucket list is to encourage ourselves to accomplish goals within in a specific timeframe. \nOur time on earth is short. Very few of us pause to think about how we spend what time we have. Creating a bucket list can help you live your life to the fullest. It also gives you the opportunity to appreciate the life you have and reflect on the good things to come. \n\n\n \nBucket List Ideas\nA bucket list can be anything you want it to be. Your bucket list should reflect your interests. In fact\, we’re guessing there are no two lists alike. If you are a simple person\, create a bucket list that reflects the simple pleasures in life. If you gravitate towards extravagant things or love to travel\, your list will more than likely consist of ideas that require more of a financial investment. \nSimple Bucket List Ideas\n\nGraduating from high school or college.\nHaving children.\nBuying a home.\nBecoming a freelance photographer.\nParticipating in a painting club.\n\nExtravagant Bucket List Ideas\n\nGo on a cruise.\nVisit the Rainforest.\nVisit all the continents in the world.\nVisit historical landmarks across the country.\nRide a hot air balloon.\n\nTravel Bucket List\n\nTravel to Europe.\nSee the ancient Mayan ruins.\nVisit Egyptian tombs.\nTravel Route 66.\nVisit all the state parks in North America.\n\nFinding Gratitude\nLiving a life of gratitude is key to living a well-rounded life\, full of happiness and satisfaction. Gratitude allows you to find every day moments and turn them into long-term fulfillment. Completing items on your bucket list will help you realize the opportunity you have been given as you experience life-changing moments you thought might never happen. Enjoy the ride and show gratitude for the adventure you have in this life. \nENDLESS POSSIBILITIES\n\nBe brave and have some fun by learning to paint\, drive a race car\, skydive\, surf\, or jump off a cliff.\nSample local food and drink during your travels.\nCreate a bucket list with a friend that you both can enjoy.\nWatch the movie Bucket List\, staring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.\nPay it forward with a bucket list that allows you to donate time to an orphanage\, local soup kitchen\, or food pantry.\nShare your videos and photos on social media from your bucket list adventures using #NationalBucketListDay.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:Bike to Work Day
DESCRIPTION:National Bike to Work Day takes place on the third Friday in May\, right in the middle of National Bike Month. The observance encourages us to bike to work\, but it also raises awareness of cyclists as they commute to and from work each day. \n\n\n \n#BikeToWorkDay\nAs more and more people take to bicycles for transportation to and from work\, it’s important for both cyclists and drivers to share the road safely. Both must be aware of the traffic laws and follow them. More and more communities are adding bike lanes to improve safety. In the United States\, from the year 2000 to 2011\, the number of bicycle commuters grew by more than 47 percent. National Bike to Work Day promotes the bicycle as a healthy and safe alternative for commuting to work. \nSome of the benefits of commuting to work by bicycle include: \n\nPhysical fitness – Cyclists get an aerobic workout before and after work. It’s also low impact exercise that is easy on the joints\, unlike jogging.\nFuel savings – They save fuel costs\, which puts more money back in their pockets.\nSmaller carbon footprint – By cycling\, they reduce carbon emissions resulting in cleaner air.\nAutomobile longevity – Get more life out of their motor vehicle by using it for more necessary trips.\n\nSafety First\nBiking is an enjoyable activity. But\, like all outdoor activities\, it’s important to remember safety is the key to enjoying your biking experience. \n\nAlways wear a helmet.\nWear reflective clothing.\nLimit distractions.\nRide with the flow of traffic\, not into traffic.\nLearn hand signals and use them.\n\n\n\n \nPARTICPATION IS CELEBRATION\n\nAttend a community biking event.\nShare biking tips with a child.\nTake a bike safety course.\nBike to work every day during the summer.\nCreate a biking club.\nLearn the history of bikes.\nShare your biking journal on social media using #BikeToWorkDay.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:International Plastic Free Day
DESCRIPTION:International Plastic Free Day is a call to action and brings attention to the plastic we use every day. On May 25th\, commit to using no single-use plastic for one day (including bottles\, take-out food containers\, utensils\, bags and wrappers.) \n#InternationalPlasticFreeDay\nOver 380 million tons of plastic is produced every year. Half of all plastic produced is single-use – meaning it’s thrown away after just one use. Since only 9% of all plastic gets recycled\, most of it ends up littering our communities\, filling our landfills\, and polluting our oceans. \nInternational Plastic Free Day creates awareness of just how much plastic we use every day\, and how we can use less of it. Consider all the ways single-use plastic is used in our daily lives: \n\nBeverage bottles\nCleaning products in plastic jugs\nTo-go containers\nFood packaging\nCups\, straws\, lids\nStorage bags\nProduct packaging\n\nParticipation is simple: Say “No” to single-use plastics for one day. Don’t buy it\, refuse it\, don’t use it. The day also encourages learning how to swap sustainable products for single-use plastics. For example\, swap: \n\nSingle-use straws with reusable bamboo straws.\nReusable tumbler for drinking both hot and cold beverages.\nReusable cloth bags for shopping.\nSilicone bags for sandwiches and snacks.\nCompostable garbage bags.\n\nHOW TO OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL PLASTICS FREE DAY\nBefore May 25th\, take the plastic-free challenge and commit to using no single-use plastics all day long. Every time you do\, one less piece of plastic will be added to the environment. During International Plastic Free Day you can also: \n\nStart a conversation about single-use plastic and its impact on the Earth.\nLearn how plastic waste impacts our environment.\nDiscover one permanent change you can make to create less plastic waste.\nVisit Free the Ocean for more ways to reduce plastic waste.\n\nWhen you participate\, be sure to use #InternationalPlasticFeeDay and share on social media to help raise awareness. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Memorial Day
DESCRIPTION:MEMORIAL DAY\nEach year in the United States\, Americans observe the Federal holiday\, Memorial Day\, the last Monday in May. It honors and remembers all men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day is also a day to remember all loved ones who have passed away. \n#MemorialDay\nTraditionally on Memorial Day\, the flag of the United States of America is raised briskly to the top of the staff then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position where it remains until noon. At noon\, it is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. \nWhen the flag is at half-staff\, the position is in remembrance of the more than one million men and women who gave their lives for their country. Raising the flag at noon signifies the nation lives\, that the country is resolved not to let their sacrifice be in vain but to rise up in their honor and continue to fight for liberty and justice for all. \nIn the United States\, Memorial Day also traditionally marks the beginning of summer. \nHOW TO OBSERVE Memorial Day\nAttend Memorial Day services in your community. In your own way\, pay tribute in remembrance of service members who have died while serving. Visit a veterans’ cemetery to honor those who’ve impacted your life. Use #MemorialDay to post on social media.

SUMMARY:National Smile Day
DESCRIPTION:On May 31st\, National Smile Day encourages everyone to wear their best smile! \n#NationalSmileDay\nThe first recorded smile on record took place on 126 B.C. Okay\, we made that up. But did you smile? Joking aside\, we generate a smile when funny things happen or find pleasure in the things we do. Someone we love or enjoy spending time with may be the cause of a grin or beaming look of joy. \nSmiles are powerful! They not only create engagement between two people but the more a person smiles\, the healthier their brain can be. Smiling has a direct link to our brain and can help to reduce stress. \nThere is so much a smile can do. Just one smile can brighten someone’s day. It can also improve your day. Smiles are infectious. A healthy smile can develop confidence and generate a new outlook on the world. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL SMILE DAY\nShare your smile and how a smile improves your day.  Use #NationalSmileDay to share on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Say Something Nice Day
DESCRIPTION:On National Say Something Nice Day we have an opportunity to make June 1st extra pleasant for everyone. \n#SaySomethingNiceDay\nThe purpose of this holiday is to counteract bullying and the lack of civility and common courtesy that is growing among people in today’s world. Hopefully\, the practice of saying something nice today will continue into all tomorrows. \nWhen we were young\, many of us often heard\, “If you can’t say something nice\, don’t say anything at all.” One of the many reasons our parents taught us that is because once we say those words\, we can’t take them back\, no matter how true we think they might be. We all know someone whose true nature is kinder than most. Perhaps we even wish we could emulate them more than we do. \n\n\n\nDo they pay compliments or do they follow this old saying? Perhaps a little of both. But there are a few other lessons we can learn from generally nice people. It’s more than saying nice things to others. They genuinely listen to others and tend to put others first. When they pay a compliment\, it isn’t usually practiced. Their sincerity is felt by the receiver. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SAY SOMETHING NICE DAY\nThink about the nicest person you know. Take a cue from them and put one of their better qualities into practice. Say something nice to or about someone. Bring a smile to someone’s face for the sheer joy of seeing them smile. Seek no reward other than knowing that someone’s day is better because a nice word was said. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Pen Pay Day
DESCRIPTION:Observed each year on June 1st\, National Pen Pal Day is a way to let your pen pals know how much they mean to you. The day is the perfect time to send special letters and gifts to your pen pals. \n#NationalPenPalDay\nA pen pal is someone with whom you correspond by writing letters\, sharing personal events and many times have never even met. There are many benefits to having pen pals\, too. \n\nPen pals offer us a broader view of the world.\nWe improve our writing skills.\nWriting letters also give us a break from technology.\nIf your pen pal speaks another language\, your correspondence expands each other’s language.\nHaving a pen pal promotes delayed gratification. Once we write a letter\, we have to wait to hear back from our pen pal.\n\nGenerations of letter writers have enjoyed having pen pals in their life. Some have been famous and others have created life-long friendships that began in childhood. \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PEN PAL DAY\nWhile discovering a new pen pal these days might seem daunting but we found two websites that might help you along. Check out Postcrossing and Worldwide Snail Mail Pen Pals on Facebook if you’re looking for a pen pal. Share your memories of having a pen pal or your experiences with one now. SUMMARY:World Caring Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on June 7\, World Caring Day shines a spotlight on all the ways we connect and show each other we care. Afterall\, we should always take time to celebrate the millions of acts of caring we see. All acts of caring\, whether big or small\, are important. Caring is continuous and happens every day through compassion\, support\, kindness and understanding. \n#WorldCaringDay\nIn a world of many worries\, one of the easiest ways to show love is by caring. We all experience times of crisis\, illness or need. Sharing our journeys and becoming a part of a beautiful story in a segmented\, cynical world recognizes and celebrates the people who care. When we take the time to notice\, we see patience\, understanding\, kindness and encouragement from everyone around us. \nUse World Caring Day to remind others to take the opportunity and practice caring. Now more than ever\, we need to lean into caring for one another. Using this day as an opportunity to share your compassion shows genuine love and is a blessing. By sincerely asking how someone’s day went\, it shows that you care\, and can improve that person’s overall well-being. \nCaring Around the World\nCelebrating everyone as they share stories of caring recognizes and honors both those who care\, and those who are cared for. On June 7th\, we encourage everyone to rededicate themselves to recognizing\, sharing and participating in acts of caring by: \n\nAsking how someone is doing with intent and meaning. Asking someone how they are to find out what is going on in their lives shows you care.\nBeing mindful of the needs of others. Being alert and sensitive to what triggers your loved ones can help them navigate the shifts in their mood.\nReconnecting online to catch up with your friends and family living far away or with those you haven’t spoken to in a long time reopens relationships.\nMaking time for your loved ones. We know everyone gets busy but don’t become a stranger to your friends and family.\nWriting a note. You’ll be surprised by how big of an impact little notes of encouragement can have on the mood and well-being of others.\nSharing your story! Head over to www.worldcaringday.org and share your story of caring for a loved one through a challenging health journey. You can also read stories of others to feel inspired.\nJoining the conversation by spreading the word. Sharing acts of kindness will boost the World Caring Day\, especially when you use #WorldCaringDay on social media.\n\nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Smile Power Day
DESCRIPTION:On June 15th each year\, National Smile Power Day shares one powerful expression. \n#SmilePowerDay\nFrom the good morning greeting and the first “How may I help you?” present yourself with a smile. No matter where you are employed\, job seeking\, retired\, or looking for new horizons starting the day with a smile is certainly more empowering than a pout or grump. Starting with a smile first is easier than trying to get there later in the day. \nWhen you smile at someone\, you are telling them that they are valued and worth the smile that you just gave them. Smiles are morale boosters and confidence builders. \nResearch has proven that smiling really does increase attractiveness and likability among humans. Smiling creates greater trust and increased interpersonal cooperation. Smiling at someone can help them to relax and relieve their stress while at the same time\, it will make you feel at ease\, too. Even if you do not feel like it\, smiling will lift your mood and can make you a happier person. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SMILE POWER DAY\nChallenge yourself to smile more often today. Use a smile to disarm a tense situation\, or simply smile during your daily tasks. Are you having trouble smiling? \nTips to Help You Smile\n\nThink of a few happy moments that automatically generate a smile for you. You know\, those moments where you belly laughed until your stomach hurts or a time when you were so pleased with yourself your face hurt from smiling. Keep those memories handy and use them to help you smile more often.\nSave a couple of short jokes that are just so silly you can’t help but smile. Tell them to others\, too. The best ones are simple children’s jokes or riddles that play on words.\nLearn Spoonerisms. This fun way of swapping letters in two words in a phrase to make new words make people stop and think. And then they smile and so will you! An example of a Spoonerism is instead of ordering peas and carrots at a restaurant you say\, “I’ll have the keys and parrots.”\nMake a list of the things you’re grateful for. Which ones make you smile? Keep the list handy and refer to it often. Add to it and feel your smiles add up.\n\nUse #SmilePowerDay on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Fathers Day
DESCRIPTION:On the third Sunday in June\, Father’s Day honors the role fathers play in the family structure and society. The day recognizes not just fathers\, but the father figures in our lives. These are the men we look up to who set solid examples for us and guide us throughout our lives. \n#FathersDay\nMany families dedicate the day to their fathers and grandfathers. Whether they are first-time fathers just learning to change a diaper\, or experienced fathers offering sage advice\, the day celebrates everything a father is. Fathers from family to family play a variety of roles. They may be a caregiver\, provider\, or advisor. Some fathers are the strong\, silent types. And yet others tell us stories for days. Fathers teach\, guiding small hands as they hammer a nail or sail a kite. \nWe only look up to our fathers for so long. At some point\, we begin to see things a little differently. But that’s not when we stop looking up to them. It’s at that point\, we turn and look forward together. \nSTN Inspirational Quotes To Keep You Inspired in 2021

SUMMARY:Juneteenth | June 19
DESCRIPTION:JUNETEENTH | JUNE 19\nEach year Juneteenth (June 19th) commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The celebration takes place each year on June 19th\, recognizing an event that took place in Texas in 1865. \n#Juneteenth\nThe story of Juneteenth begins in Texas when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston on June 19\, 1865\, with an announcement. As the community listened to the reading of General Orders\, Number 3\, the people of Galveston learned for the first time that the Civil War was over. After more than a century of slavery and years of war\, it was official. All slaves were now freedmen. \nCelebrating Juneteenth

DESCRIPTION:INDEPENDENCE DAY\nEach year on July 4th\, the United States celebrates Independence Day. This federal holiday commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4\, 1776\, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.  \nFor nearly 250 years\, the country has been celebrating a day in history that inspires us still today. Cities deck the streets in red\, white\, and blue bunting and flags. \nFamilies and friends also gather for some of the most mouthwatering food – large picnics and barbecues\, local fairs provide a taste of culture and mom’s home cooking\, too. With so many converging on their hometowns\, family and school reunions take place. \nFire Works\nBefore the day is over\, many communities hold spectacular fireworks displays re-enacting moments of victory. Patriotic music accompanies the performance while spectators view the show from blankets strewn along capital lawns or from boats floating in bays. Whether our National Anthem\, “The Star-Spangled Banner” or “God Bless America\,” many will sing along. In some locations\, music will be played by a live orchestra or band\, while in other areas it’s pre-recorded. Some of the most popular on the playlist are “America the Beautiful\,” “My Country\, Tis of Thee\,” “This Land Is Your Land\,” “Stars and Stripes Forever\,” “God Bless the U.S.A.\,” “Yankee Doodle” and “Dixie.” \nIn some parts of the country\, people will shoot their own fireworks while children delight in the bright colors and sparklers. They roast marshmallows and make s’ mores. \nHOW TO OBSERVE #IndependenceDay #July4th #4thOfJuly #FourthOfJuly\nSpend the day celebrating independence. Attend local events or travel the nation to see friends and relatives. \n\nAt noon\, a “Salute to the Union” is fired\, each July 4th\, by any capable military base. This is a salute of one gun for each state in the United States. \nIn 2009\, New York City hosted the largest fireworks display in the country. \nHeld since 1785\, the Bristol Fourth of July Parade in Bristol\, Rhode Island\, is the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration in the United States. \n\nShare your celebrations using #IndependenceDay\, #July4th\, #4thOfJuly\, FourthOfJuly on social media.

SUMMARY:National Sister Day
DESCRIPTION:National Sisters Day on the first Sunday in August celebrates the unique bond between sisters. This particular set of siblings embrace moments that make them laugh and cringe. While they don’t always agree\, sisters have each other’s backs. \n#NationalSistersDay\nAll siblings have the odd argument here and there\, but deep down there’s little way around the natural connection between siblings. Even those who don’t have a natural sister sibling know the bonds of sisterhood. Those who forge a relationship with their spouse’s sisters understand. Also\, women who support each other through difficult times form a sisterhood. \nCelebrating National Sister Day on this Sunday \n \nA sister is like yourself in a different movie\,\na movie that stars you in a different life. ~ Deborah Tannen \nNo two sisters are alike. From love interests to cars\, sisters will disagree. And food\, cleaning\, and children require interventions. However\, we rely on each other while privately envying a sister’s style\, ability or grace. A sister understands when no one else does\, sometimes when even you don’t. So\, sister time provides vital healing. \nWhether your sisters harrassed you from day one or found you later in life\, this day brings you back together. Cherish the memories and make plans to create new ones. Reconnect or patch up any misunderstandings. Sisters are forever.

SUMMARY:International Left Handers Day
DESCRIPTION:International Left Handers Day on August 13th recognizes all those individuals who have mastered using their left hand in a right-handed world. We take our hats off to you – left-handed! \n#LeftHandersDay\nApproximately 10% of the population are southpaws. Scientists don’t know why a person develops left-handedness. But it’s more likely a child will be left-handed if one parent is a lefty\, too. Parents of left-handed children used to force them to use their right hands. In the eyes of right-handers\, the predominant use of the left hand seemed evil. Parents feared their communities would shun their children. While we accept left-handedness more readily than days gone by\, its occurrence hasn’t increased. \nFamous Cartoonist Joe Wos\, founder of mazetoons\, states that his favorite day to celebrate is International Left Handers Day\, being a lefty himself. \nCelebrating International Left Handers Day this August\nFamous Lefties\nMany lefties seek to blend in because they will stand out soon enough. Their unique quality makes them feel awkward. They bump elbows or seem like a klutz. However\, in a world designed for the right-handed\, those who are other dominant adapt quite well. For example\, eight United States presidents were left-handed\, including Ronald Reagan\, George H.W. Bush\, Bill Clinton\, and Barack Obama. Would the Sistine Chapel and the Mona Lisa stand the test of time if Michaelangelo and Leonardo de Vinci had been right-handed? \nUncommon Individual\nLeft Handers Day recognizes the uncommon individual who throws\, catches\, writes\, and uses a fork with their left hand. They view the world just a little differently\, too. At a restaurant\, they seek out the seat that will place their dominant elbow on the outside of the booth. Right-handed athletes groan a bit when the southpaw shows up as an opponent on the roster. They present a challenge right-handers aren’t always sure how to handle due to lack of practice. And yet\, lefties square off against righties all the time. \n\nDon’t be shy on Left-Handers Day. Show the world how brilliant and unique you are!

SUMMARY:National Spaghetti Day
DESCRIPTION:National Spaghetti Day on January 4th offers an opportunity to pick your sauce and add it to that long\, thin cylindrical pasta of Italian and Sicilian origin. Usually made from semolina flour\, this pasta has been a worldwide favorite for ages and loved by millions. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n#NationalSpaghettiDay\n\n\n\nThere are various pasta dishes based on spaghetti\, and the sauce determines most of them. Some examples include spaghetti ala Carbonara\, garlic and oil\, tomato sauce\, meat sauce\, bolognese\, Alfredo sauce\, clam sauce\, or other sauces. In addition\, we traditionally serve spaghetti dishes topped with grated hard cheeses such as Pecorino Romano\, Parmesan\, and Grana Padano. \nThe word spaghetti is plural for the Italian word spaghetto\, which is a diminutive of spago\, meaning “thin  string” or “twine.” \n\n\n\n\nAmerican restaurants offered spaghetti around the end of the 19th century as Spaghetti Italienne (which is believed to have consisted of noodles cooked past al dente and a mild tomato sauce flavored with easily found spices and vegetables such as cloves\, bay leaves\, and garlic). Decades later\, cooks added oregano and basil to many recipes. \nSpaghetti Origins\nThere is a significant debate on the origin of spaghetti. However\, we do know that we’ve been consuming pasta for many\, many years. There are records in the Jerusalem Talmud of itrium\, a kind of boiled dough commonly available in Palestine from the 3rd to 5th centuries AD. A 9th-century Arab dictionary describes itriyyaas as string-like shapes made of semolina and dried before cooking. A 1154 writing for the Norman King of Sicily\, mentions itriyya as being manufactured and exported from Norman Sicily. Dried pasta became popular in the 14th and 15th centuries due to its easy storage. People stored the dried pasta in ships when exploring the New World. A century later\, pasta was present around the globe during the voyages of discovery. (Wikipedia) \n\n\n \nOn Top of Spaghetti\nIn March of 2009\, the world record for the largest bowl of spaghetti was set and then reset in March of 2010 when a Garden Grove California Buca di Beppo restaurant successfully filled a swimming pool with more than 13\,780 pounds of pasta. \nSung to the tune of “On Top of Old Smoky\,” the fun children’s song\, “On Top of Spaghetti\,” was written and originally sung by folk singer Tom Glazer with the Do-Re-Mi Children’s Chorus in 1963. \n“On top of spaghetti\,\nAll covered with cheese\,\nI lost my poor meatball\,\nWhen somebody sneezed. \nIt rolled off the table\,\nAnd on to the floor\,\nAnd then my poor meatball\,\nRolled out of the door.” \nCOOK\, EAT\, CELEBRATE\nMake your favorite spaghetti dish\, and be sure to make enough to share. Of course\, you can always invite friends to join you at your favorite Italian restaurant and split a plate. If you do\, be sure to tag the restaurant and use #NationalSpaghettiDay to post on social media. \nSource Link.

SUMMARY:Save the Eagles Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on January 10th\, Save the Eagles Day reminds us of the majestic raptors that soar above the Earth – whether they are well populated or endangered. Due to the work of scientists and the public\, the bald eagle was removed from this list in June 2007. Poaching\, pesticides\, and other dangers continue to threaten eagle populations. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n#SaveTheEaglesDay\n\n\n\nWhile the day started as a way to save a specific pair of bald eagles and to raise awareness about the species\, the observance has grown to encompass all species of eagles. Approximately 60 species of eagles populate the world. Most of the species are found in Eurasia and Africa. North\, Central\, and South America and Australia only account for about 14 species. However\, no eagles are found in Hawaii. The most common species in North America are the bald and golden eagles. \nEagles are powerful birds of prey. An eagle’s sharp sense of sight paired with powerful muscles\, piercing talons\, and beak\, make them primed for the hunt. They are also monogamous\, mating for life. \nHOW TO OBSERVE SAVE THE EAGLES DAY\nLearn more about eagles. Watch documentaries or read about them. Visit an aviary or a bird sanctuary. We have provided a couple of books to review\, too. Participate in preservation and conservation in your area\, too. \n\nThe Eagle Watchers: Observing and Conserving Raptors Around the World  by Todd E. Katzner\nEagles by Melissa Gish\n\nUse #SaveTheEaglesDay to post on social media. \n\n\n \nSAVE THE EAGLES DAY HISTORY\nIn 2015\, Save the Eagles Day originated in the Village of Ridgefield Park\, New Jersey. The day is the result of an effort to save a pair of nesting bald eagles near the community. Late in 2014\, Skymark Development Corp of Paramus brought a study forth arguing that a landfill near where the eagles nested posed health risks. The nesting pair\, fondly named Alice and Al\, had nested along Overpeck Creek since at least 2011. When the developer proposed a solution that included removing the tree the eagles nested in\, the community and the Bergen County Audubon Society organized Save the Eagles Day on January 10\, 2015. \nEventually\, an agreement was formed to preserve an area of the land as an eagle park. Alice and Al continued to live out their days in Ridgefield Park and fly over the residents there. Read more about the environmental success of the area and about Alice and Al. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Houseplant Appreciation Day
DESCRIPTION:One of the best ways to enhance a space is by adding house plants. The busy holidays cause many of us to neglect some of our regular routines\, including houseplant care. National Houseplant Appreciation Day on January 10th serves as a reminder to give your houseplants a little extra attention to keep them thriving. \n\n\n \n#HouseplantAppreciationDay\nThose with green thumbs know that having houseplants come with several benefits\, some of them are even backed by science. \nHouseplant Benefits\n\nBoost productivity – Some studies have shown that indoor plants may improve productivity and performance in the workplace and in school.\nReduce anxiety – Caring for plants provides therapeutic benefits. Similar to outdoor gardening\, indoor gardening may help to ease the symptoms of depression\, anxiety\, and dementia.\nReduce air pollutants – In 1989\, NASA published a study that showed plants may improve the air quality for indoor spaces. Since we all know from elementary science that plants consume carbon dioxide and produce oxygen\, this study makes sense. The more plants you have the more effective they are at improving air quality. Specific plant species are more effective than others\, too. For example\, Boston ferns\, spider plants\, ficus\, rubber trees\, and bamboo palms clean the air more effectively than other plants.\nImproved humidity – Especially in dryer climates and in the winter months\, when plants release moisture into the air they improve the humidity in a room. Humidity enhances a home’s comfort level\, and we also breathe easier when the humidity in our homes is balanced. Also\, plants are prettier than humidifiers.\n\nHouseplants offer much to be appreciated\, as you can see. Beyond these benefits\, houseplants bring the outdoors inside where it can be enjoyed all year long. They fill our homes with color. \nYou don’t have to have a green thumb to care for houseplants\, either. Start with forgiving plants such as pathos\, philodendron\, sansevieria\, or spider plant. These plants will bounce back if you forget to water them and won’t whine if you accidentally overwater them. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE HOUSEPLANT APPRECIATION DAY\nDuring National Houseplant Appreciation Day\, give your plants some love. Check their soil\, make sure their roots are happy\, and maybe talk to them. We also suggest: \n\nAdding to your plant collection.\nPruning overgrown plants and offering the cuttings for trade.\nJoining a plant group. These groups help plant lovers to troubleshoot plant problems. They also offer plant swaps for cuttings and full-sized plants.\nBuying a plant for the first time. Be sure to select plants that are not harmful to pets and children.\nTaking a class. You can learn how to care for plants\, access resources\, and improve your understanding of horticulture.\nSharing photos of your plant collection.\n\nBe sure to join the conversation by using #HouseplantAppreciationDay on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Rubber Ducky Day
DESCRIPTION:According to a 1973 Sesame Street calendar\, Rubber Duckie’s Birthday is January 13th so around the country it’s National Rubber Ducky Day! A friend of Ernie and Big Bird\, Duckie made his debut in a February 1970 episode. \n\n\n \n#NationalRubberDuckyDay\nThe rubber ducky (also spelled duckie) has come a long way from his first concept as a chew toy for children. While the origin of the first rubber ducky is uncertain\, many rubber molded toys came about when rubber manufacturing developed in the late 1800s. They produced a variety of toys from dolls and various animal shapes\, including the rubber duck. \nIn 1928\, Landon Smart Lawrence received the earliest patent for a rubber duck toy. His clever design weighted the toy so that when it tipped it returned to an upright position. The sketch included with the patent was that of a duck. \nDuring World Wars I and II\, rubber was a valuable commodity. Rationing became mandatory and by the 1940s with the advent of plastic\, the rubber ducky began being produced in vinyl and plastic. Russian Sculptor Peter Ganine sculpted many animal figures. One\, a duck\, he later designed and patented into a floating toy that closely resembles the rubber ducky we have become familiar with today. \nSales of the iconic yellow rubber ducky we’ve come to know today soared in Britain in 2001. Why? A British Tabloid\, The Sun\, reported Queen Elizabeth II had a rubber duck in her bathroom that wore an inflatable crown. \nThe rubber ducky became a Toy Hall of Fame inductee in 2013. Founded in 1998\, the Hall of Fame has only inducted 52 other toys. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL RUBBER DUCKY DAY\nSpend time with your favorite rubber ducky. Share photos of your rubber ducky collection. Discover all the different kinds of rubber duckies available. Use #NationalRubberDuckyDay to post on social media. \nNATIONAL RUBBER DUCKY DAY HISTORY\nWhile our research did not uncover the creator of National Rubber Ducky Day\, National Day Calendar® is pretty fond of the idea that it has to do with Sesame Street’s Rubber Duckie. \nSource Link:

SUMMARY:Martin Luther King Jr. Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on the third Monday of January we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reflect on the work that still needs to be done for racial equality. This January 16\, make the holiday more than just a day off and take time to reflect and take action on civil rights issues across the globe.\n\nMartin Luther King Day is observed every year on the third Monday of January — on January 16 this year. King was an influential civil rights leader — best known for his work on racial equality and ending racial segregation in the United States. His life and achievements are remembered and celebrated on this day.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe concept of Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a holiday was promoted by labor unions. After King’s death\, U.S. Representative John Conyers and U.S. Senator Edward Brooke introduced a bill in Congress to make King’s birthday a national holiday. The bill first came to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1979; however\, it fell five votes short of the number needed for passage. Two of the main arguments mentioned by opponents were that a paid holiday for federal employees would be too expensive and that a holiday to honor a private citizen would be contrary to longstanding tradition\, as King never held public office. At the time\, only two other figures had national holidays honoring them: George Washington and Christopher Columbus. \n\n\n \nSoon after\, the King Center looked for support from the corporate community and the general public. The success of this strategy was cemented when musician Stevie Wonder released the single ‘Happy Birthday’ to popularize the campaign in 1980 and hosted the Rally for Peace Press Conference in 1981. Six million signatures were collected for a petition for Congress to pass the law and is considered the largest petition in favor of an issue in U.S. history. \nPresident Reagan originally opposed the holiday\, citing cost concerns. But on November 2\, 1983\, Reagan signed a bill\, proposed by Representative Katie Hall\, to create a federal holiday honoring King. The bill had passed the Senate by a count of 78 to 22\, and the House of Representatives by 338 to 90. The holiday was observed for the first time on January 20\, 1986. It’s observed on the third Monday of January rather than directly on Martin Luther King\, Jr.’s birthday because it follows the guidelines of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

SUMMARY:Celebration of Life Day
DESCRIPTION:Though Celebration of Life Day\, which lands on January 22\, was originally instituted to celebrate the children in our lives\, it has come to signify all that’s good about being alive. It’s easy to forget sometimes\, but we are all fortunate to be here. Take time to celebrate that the good far outweighs the bad in this life. It all starts with gratitude and appreciation for where you are right now\, and wherever you hope your dreams take you. Every life is precious\, individual\, and a huge gift\, so take a little extra time today to celebrate it. \n\n\n \nThough Ronald Regan originally established the holiday to send an anti-abortion message\, the Celebration of Life Day has come to be a day to celebrate both the lives of children and ourselves. Celebration of Life Day was originally called National Sanctity of Human Life Day and was proclaimed in January 1984 by Ronald Regan. At the time\, President Regan chose to harken back to the landmark abortion case Roe v Wade by placing National Sanctity of Human Life Day on the 11-year anniversary of the decision on the case. \nAnti-abortion groups championed the holiday and felt that it expressed their sentiments on the importance of human life at all stages. This belief has been echoed in Donald Trump’s statement on the day from 2019. Organizations who champion the right to choose\, like Planned Parenthood\, denounced the day as a way of limiting women’s rights to autonomy over their bodies. \n\n\n \nThe history of National Sanctity of Human Life/Celebration of Life Day has been rocky. Though both Bush presidencies continued the holiday\, it was discontinued for eight years under President Bill Clinton. Donald Trump has continued the holiday throughout his presidency\, as well\, and some churches have even marked it as a holy day on their calendars. The holiday routinely falls on a Sunday for this religious reason\, although only in 2018 Donald Trump proclaimed it be celebrated on a Monday. \nToday\, many view the Celebration of Life Day as a day to spend extra time with their nieces\, nephews\, children\, grandchildren\, or even just kids they babysit. Every human life is precious\, and today is the day to remind ourselves we are all lucky to be here and lead the lives we do. Despite our individual and group challenges\, there is always good to be found and gratitude to be shown – and what better day to find the positive than Celebration of Life Day? \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Compliment Day
DESCRIPTION:National Compliment Day on January 24th offers a wonderful way to brighten someone’s day or to give credit for a job well done!  Give an extra compliment annually on January 24th and any time one is deserved. \n\n\n \n#NationalComplimentDay\nA compliment has a powerful effect. It can instill confidence in a child\, or validate someone’s hard work. A compliment not only improves the receiver’s mood\, but it also says something about the giver. It tells them you noticed. Whether we recognize someone’s achievement or their classic style\, a compliment can go a long way. \nTo give a great compliment\, first be sincere. People have a way of knowing when we are fake. If you don’t mean it\, it’s worse than getting a thoughtless birthday gift. \nComplimenting character versus a new haircut are different rewards. The first says you respect the person and the other tells them you paid attention. Sometimes the receiver needs to hear one or the other\, or both. \nHuman beings like to be unique\, original. Strive to give a compliment about what makes a person stand out above the rest. Take the time to reflect on what you admire about the person. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL COMPLIMENT DAY\nMake sure to compliment someone. Share the compliments you receive that make your day. Do they improve your day? Make a list of different ways to give a compliment and use #NationalComplimentDay to post on social media. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:Holocaust Remembrance Day
DESCRIPTION:Holocaust Remembrance Day – Each year on January 27th\, the world remembers one of the most horrific events in modern history. This tragic event is known as the Holocaust. The holocaust occurred during WWII when Nazi Germany killed millions of innocent victims. The day is also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day. \n\n\n \n#HolocaustRemembranceDay\nNazi Germany is one of the evilest regimes that ever existed. They persecuted and killed millions of people in just under four years. One group in particular that suffered were those of the Jewish faith. It is believed that six million Jews were killed during the Holocaust. The Nazis’ persecution of the Jews became a genocide. \nGenocide occurs when those of a particular ethnic group is deliberately killed. However\, the Nazis killed more than just Jews. Hundreds of thousands of other groups of people died under the evil regime. These included: \n\n7 million Soviet civilians\n3 million Soviet prisoners of war\n1.8 million Polish civilians\n312\,000 Serb civilians\nUp to 250\,000 people with disabilities\nUp to 250\,000 Gypsies\nAround 1\,900 Jehovah Witnesses\nPossibly thousands of homosexuals\n\nMost Jews died in concentration camps. The most notorious concentration camp is Auschwitz\, where approximately one million Jews died. While some of the Jews in the concentration camps died from disease or starvation\, others died in the gas chambers. Other groups of people were forced to live in ghettos where they died of sickness or starvation. Still\, others were rounded up\, shot\, and buried in mass graves. \nMany famous books and movies have been produced about the holocaust. One of the most famous books is Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. The book is a real-life account of the two years that Anne Frank and her Dutch family hid from the Nazis. The family was discovered and deported to a concentration camp. Anne was 15 years old when she died in the camp from typhus. Other books include The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom\, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne\, and Born Survivors by Wendy Holden. Movies include Schindler’s List\, The Reader\, Denial\, and The Devil’s Arithmetic. \nThere are many other works\, such as theater productions\, music\, and poetry. Many of the works were created by victims and survivors of the holocaust. Other works commemorate the many heroes who helped save thousands of Jews and other victims from certain death. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY\nMany events are held throughout the world to commemorate this solemn day. The United Nations hosts a Holocaust memorial ceremony. The ceremony includes testimonies by Holocaust survivors\, special music\, and memorial prayers. There are also photographic exhibits\, panel discussions\, film screenings\, and book signings. Sadly\, there are some that try to deny the holocaust ever happened. This is one more reason to take part in this day. If the holocaust is forgotten or denied\, it will be easier for history to repeat itself. Share this day on social media with #HolocaustRemembranceDay or #NeverForget. \nHOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY HISTORY\nOn January 24\, 2005\, the United Nations General Assembly marked the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps. Later that year on November 1\, the UN General Assembly designated January 27th as the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. It is also referred to as Holocaust Remembrance Day. It was on January 27th in 1945 that Soviet troops liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Groundhog Day
DESCRIPTION:National Groundhog Day on February 2nd each year asks one question. Will he see his shadow? Ok\, well\, maybe it asks another question. Will there be six more weeks of winter? The day is celebrated each year in the United States and Canada. \n\n\n \n#NationalGroundhogDay\nTraditionally the groundhog awakens from his nap for a nice welcomed break during the winter to see if he can see his shadow. Many believe if the groundhog sees his shadow\, there will be six more weeks of winter. If this is so\, he retreats into his den and goes back to sleep. However\, if he does not see his shadow\, the groundhog remains outside to play\, and people celebrate\, believing spring is just around the corner. \nTradition\nThe tradition of predicting the length of the remaining winter is intertwined with the Christian holiday\, Candlemas. The clergy would bless candles symbolizing the ‘light of the world’ to give to their congregations. Another tradition associated with this day is eating crepes. Germans practiced the art of predicting the winter with a hedgehog. When they arrived in the United States\, they settled in the hills of Pennsylvania\, and the groundhog became the official predictor. \nPunxsutawney\, Pennsylvania\, has hosted the annual Groundhog day event. Thousands of people come to the town of Punxsutawney on Groundhog Day for this day of celebration. \nAlthough already a well-known day\, Groundhog Day received widespread attention due to the 1993 film Groundhog Day\, which was set in Punxsutawney and portrayed Roger Rininger as the groundhog. \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL GROUNDHOG DAY\n\nWatch Punxsutawney Phil and see if he sees his shadow.\nMake your own prediction for National Groundhog Day.\nWatch a documentary about groundhogs.\nWatch Groundhog the movie. And then\, watch it again.\nRead the Farmer’s Almanac to determine the likelihood of an early spring. Does Phil agree?\nLook for your shadow.\nUse #NationalGroundhogDay on social media.\n\nNATIONAL GROUNDHOG DAY HISTORY\nAn early American reference to Groundhog Day can be found in a diary entry by storekeeper James Morris\, dated February 4th\, 1841\, of Berks County\, Pennsylvania. \n“Last Tuesday\, the 2nd\, was Candlemas day\, the day on which\, according to the Germans\, the groundhog peeps out of his winter quarters and if he sees his shadow he pops back for another six weeks nap\, but if the day be cloudy he remains out\, as the weather is to be moderate.” \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Weatherperson’s Day
DESCRIPTION:Always celebrated on February 5th\, National Weatherperson’s Day (also known as National Weatherman’s Day) honors all individuals working in meteorology\, weather forecasting\, and broadcast meteorology. The day also recognizes volunteer storm spotters\, observers\, and others who work in the weather field. \nPOTW: Karen Conklin\, The English Center of Youngstown \n#WeatherpersonsDay\nThis annual holiday commemorates the birthday of John Jeffries\, born on this day in 1744. Dr. Jeffries\, a scientist and a surgeon\, is considered one of America’s first weather observers. He kept weather records from 1774 to 1816. Additionally\, Jefferies pioneered the field of ballooning in the United States and took his first balloon observation in 1784. \nDuring this celebration\, those honored work hard to accurately forecast and report the constantly changing and often unpredictable weather. Despite new technological advances\, meteorologists face challenges in predicting the weather. Even with the most state-of-the-art technology\, predicting “Mother Nature” and what path she may choose is a very daunting task. \nKnowing the weather forecast is valuable to us in so many ways. We often look at the forecast to plan our activities for the upcoming days. It affects what we do\, how we dress\, where we go\, or even if we go at all.   Being prepared for impending storms\, hurricanes or tornadoes saves lives. \nTiny Alabama Town Shocked to Learn Farmer had Secretly Paid People’s Pharmacy Bills for a Decade \nNATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE:\n“The primary mission of the Weather Service (NWS) forecast office is to provide the American public with the best possible warning service to save lives. Recent severe weather statistics show that we continue to improve our capability to warn the public of impending hazardous weather. \nNationally\, lead time for flash flood warnings improved from 22 minutes in 1993 to 78 minutes in 2008. Accuracy over the same time period increased from 71 percent to 91 percent. Lead time for tornado warnings has increased from 6 minutes in 1993 to 13 minutes today. Tornado warning accuracy increased from 43 percent to 72 percent. Winter storm accuracy in 2008 was 89 percent with an average lead time of 17 hours. Since 1990\, the Tropical Prediction Center’s 24 to 72-hour tropical storm forecast track errors have been reduced by more than 50%. These more accurate and longer lead time warnings help communities stay safe.” \nHOW TO OBSERVE WEATHERPERSONS DAY\nThank your local weatherperson. It may be the person you turn to on the news to keep you up to date on the latest storms. Or\, it may also be the storm spotters who report to the National Weather Service. Their warnings alert us to more imminent dangers. Weather changes often impact our lives and livelihoods\, so their dedication is valuable. Consider how weather affects our daily lives and how much you appreciate an accurate forecast whenever possible. Share your experiences and give a shout-out to the weatherperson doing an outstanding job in your area! \nUse #WeatherpersonsDay to post on social media. \nSource Link + Add New Category

SUMMARY:National Send A Card To A Friend Day
DESCRIPTION:National Send A Card To A Friend Day on February 7th reminds us to send friendly cheer through the mail. We do that by sending a note or message on a card to the friends we hold dear. Throughout the year\, we often think about our friends. We wonder how they are\, miss them\, and remember fond memories of times shared. \n\n\n \n#SendACardToAFriendDay\nSending a card to someone for a variety of reasons dates back to ancient times. The Chinese would send elegantly designed messages as well as the Egyptians\, though on different types of paper. During the Rennaisance\, greeting cards gained popularity for specific holidays and events. Victorian times increased the use of the greeting card for Valentine’s Day\, Christmas\, birthdays\, and more. \nWhile our more digital era may turn away from the flowery language of greeting cards\, a surprising 80 percent of adults still purchase them. While they may only make these purchases for special occasions and are more likely to include them with a gift when they’re attending an event\, they are purchasing. That said\, retailers continue to reduce their footprint in the greeting card aisle. \nAll the facts would add up to a faster fading “Just Thinking of You” type of card. However nice it is to receive sweet text\, wouldn’t it be less of a chore to go to the mailbox if occasionally you found a notecard from a friend? \n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE SEND A CARD TO A FRIEND DAY\nSend a card to your friends. You can buy cards at a store\, or you can make them yourself. Whichever way you choose\, set aside a few minutes to write a short note or a long note in a card and send one to make a friend’s day! Use #SendACardToAFriendDay to post on social media. \nNATIONAL SEND A CARD TO FRIEND DAY HISTORY\nNational Day Calendar continues researching the origins of this friendly holiday. As we do\, we’re also making friends that we need to send cards to\, too! \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Boys Scouts Day
DESCRIPTION:February 8th annually recognizes National Boys Scouts Day. Since 1910\, boys across America have been doing good deeds\, learning survival skills\, and developing moral foundations through the Boy Scout of America. \n\n\n \n#NationalBoyScoutsDay\nThe Boy Scouts of America has roots in the British Boy Scouts organization which was created in 1908 after the success of the book Scouting for Boys by Robert Baden-Powell. \nOn a foggy day in London an American newspaperman\, William Dickson Boyce\, became lost when a Boy Scout came to his assistance. With the boy’s guidance\, Boyce arrived at his destination. When Boyce offered payment for the assistance\, the Boy Scout refused explaining it was a good deed. \nBoyce was inspired to organize similar youth groups into one organization. On February 8\, 1910\, Boyce filed papers of incorporation\, and the Boy Scouts of America was born. \nBoy Scouts have had a profound impact on the United States.  Many presidents and other dignitaries have been Boy Scouts.  A total of 181 Astronauts have also been a part of the Boy Scout program. \nSource Link

SUMMARY:National Random Acts of Kindness Day
DESCRIPTION:Each year on February 17th\, National Random Acts of Kindness Day grows in popularity. It is celebrated by individuals\, groups\, and organizations nationwide to encourage acts of kindness. \n#RandomActsOfKindnessDay\nThe movement of Random Acts of Kindness inspires people every day. As a favorite celebration for many\, people everywhere are enjoying doing these acts of kindness. Not only do the acts of kindness bring joy to the receiver\, but they spread positive reactions to the giver\, too! \n\n\n \nOur research found that the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation celebrates Random Acts of Kindness Week. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is an internationally recognized non-profit organization founded upon the powerful belief in kindness and dedicated to providing resources and tools that encourage acts of kindness. \nIn New Zealand\, where this day originated\, Random Acts of Kindness Day is celebrated on September 1st. However\, it is also recognized by some on other days throughout the year. Nevertheless\, doing random acts of kindness is something that can be done every day of the year. \nA Few Quotes of Kindness: \n\n“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” (Mark Twain)\n“No act of kindness\, no matter how small\, is ever wasted.” (Aesop)\n“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” (Scott Adams)\n“Kind words and actions can seem so small\, but their effects are truly endless.” (Author Unknown)\n\n\n\n \nHOW TO OBSERVE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY\n\nPay for the coffee or meal of the person in front of you in line.\nLeave a kind note for someone\, no explanation is needed.\nShare words of encouragement. You never know who might need them.\nPut your skills to work for someone in need. For example\, offer to create a résumé for someone seeking a new job.\nDrop off a load of groceries at the local food pantry.\nMail a “thinking of you” card to someone you’ve not to talk to in a while.\nOrder a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to anyone in the hospital. That means\, call the florist and tell them to pick a hospital or nursing home and deliver flowers to the person the front desk thinks needs it the most. It could be a sick child\, an elderly person with no family\, or a college student down on their luck.\nSend a thank-you note to the local fire department\, police departments\, or any military personnel.\nJust smile.\nShare your random acts of kindness using #RandomActsOfKindnessDay to post on social media.\n\nSource Link
