Publications are censored\, fined and closed down. \n\n\n \n#WorldPressFreedomDay\nIt is an opportunity to: \n\ncelebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom;\nassess the state of press freedom throughout the world;\ndefend the media from attacks on their independence;\nand pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.\n\nIn the United States\, over the last 15 years\, the number of reporters\, editors\, photographers\, and other U.S. newsroom employees fell by 45 percent. It’s expected that more newsrooms will follow suit as news business models continue to be in flux. There are now some 1\,500 “ghost papers\,” where skeleton staffs are offering little to no local news coverage.
