Stephen L. Gage Memorial Concert

A memorial concert in honor of the late Dr. Stephen L. Gage will be held on Sunday, May 21 at 3:30pm.
The concert will celebrate Dr. Gage’s 44-year career as a music educator and conductor. Former students, colleagues, and friends will present a 90-minute program selected from Dr. Gage’s favorite musical repertoire as well as music that he wrote for each of his three children. Audience members are invited to bring their instruments and join in the playing of the finale, Stars and Stripes Forever. A reception and light refreshments will follow the program.
The event will also raise funds for two scholarships in his name. The scholarships, one at Youngstown State University and another at Indiana State University, will continue his legacy of passion for music and sharing the love of music with others for years to come.
Gage spent 28 years as the Director of Bands and Orchestra at Youngstown State University. He also served as the director of the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra, W.D. Packard Band, and Stambaugh Youth Concert Band. He wrote numerous articles on conducting, rehearsal technique, and wind band literature. Gage and the YSU Wind Ensemble released nine compact disc recordings including two through NAXOS, Inc. He influenced thousands of musicians as a guest conductor of honor groups and festivals throughout the United States.
Prior to his years at Youngstown State, Gage served as director of Bands at Emporia State University in Kansas, director of Bands at Auburn High School in New York, and director of Bands at Warsaw High School in New York. Gage most recently served as interim director of Bands at Indiana State University School of Music.
