Lit Youngstown’s Book Discussion

Lit Youngstown’s Food for Thought book discussion series will focus on books that won major literary prizes. All titles in the series are available from the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, and the discussions will take place on the second Thursday of each month at the Main library 2nd floor meeting room from 5:00-6:00pm.

The series began with Museum of Innocence by Orhan Pamuk, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature. October 13, the discussion will be on Deaf Republic by Ilya Kaminsky, a poet who came to the U.S. as a refugee from war in Ukraine. The book discussions will include information about the national and international literary prizes.

The remaining titles in the series and the prizes they won are:

November 10: memoir Furnishing Eternity by David Giffels, Ohioana Book Awards

December 8: poetry Be Holding by Ross Gay, PEN/ Jean Stein Book Award

January: novel There, There by Tommy Orange, American Book Award

February: essays A Little Devil in America: Notes In Praise Of Black Performance by Hanif Abdurraqib, National Book Critics Circle Award

March: novel The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht, Orange Prize for Fiction

April: non-fiction All That She Carried  by Tiya Miles, National Book Award

May: biography Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser, Pulitzer Prize
